Duties and Responsibilities

Application Pool Notice
Laredo College continuously accepts applications for part-time (adjunct) instructors to create a pool of candidates for each session/semester. Applications will be reviewed and positions will be filled based on department needs. Applications received for this pool will remain active for one year.

Position Requirements 

Upon employment, candidate must reside in the state of Texas.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develops curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the competencies addressed in the fields of Real Estate. Teach Real Estate Qualifying courses.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Develop course/program curriculum to address the particular area of instruction via face-to-face, virtual and hybrid courses

  2. Prepare tailored course documentation such as lesson plans, courses syllabi, assignments, quizzes/exams

  3. Follow daily lesson plans to ensure quality, consistency, and uniformity of instruction and student conduct

  4. Adapt to different teaching styles to accommodate the population and teaching modes such as face-to-face, virtual, and hybrid

  5. Keep accurate attendance records and submit required continuing education class documents in a timely manner

  6. Provide students with information about the goals and requirements of each course, the nature of the course content and the methods of evaluation to be employed including required classroom behavior

  7. Measure each student’s progress through the use of written exams or performance assessments essential to mastery of unit objectives. Inform students of course progression and provide supplemental materials and/or instruction when necessary

  8. Be responsible for the efficient and safe operation, care, and appearance of assigned equipment, classroom/lab, and all other teaching materials

  9. Must be able to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality by following FERPA standards.

  10. Work a flexible schedule as determined by instructional activities and course enrollment

  11. Participate in training activities as needed by the department

  12. Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Continuing Education, Dean of Community Education, VP of Instruction, and/or President

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field appropriate for the course content taught. 
  • Five years of active experience as a Real Estate license holder and three years of work experience in teaching or training in Real Estate. 
  • Real Estate License 

Preferred:
  • Real Estate Broker

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to teach Real Estate Qualifying Courses

  • Must stay informed and up to date with the latest instructional methods, curriculum, and regulations established by the Texas Real Estate Commission.

  • Must be computer literate- word processing, spreadsheets, and the Internet.

  •  Must be able to operate online platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, etc.

  • Ability to navigate through a Learning Management System such as CANVAS

  • Must be knowledgeable, mature, and concerned with the academic progress of participants.

  • Maintain excellent working relationships with the program staff and participants.

  • Ability to teach on weekdays and weekends preferred.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form and ability to instruct and maintain emotional control under stress.

  • Must demonstrate enthusiasm.

  • Must be a self-starter and a positive role model.

  • Must demonstrate a strong desire to teach and help others.

Physical Requirements 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. 
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch. 
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a standard office environment. 
Work-inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time.
