Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a talented professional for the role of a Development Officer (DO) - Global Foundations, Organizations and Institutions (GFOI). Reporting to the Director, GFOI-US, the Development Officer is responsible for the implementation of a fundraising strategy to secure new and renewed institutional grant funding in support of HFHI’s mission. The DO will be a member of the GFOI-US team which is a key team in executing complex funding and partnerships with Global FOI donors, including professional foundations, bi-lateral and multi-lateral organizations.
The DO is tasked with building out a portfolio to steward current donors and reignite and deepen relationships with recent or new donors. This work will require expertise around donor cultivation and activation. The DO will work closely with the Director, GFOI and other internal stakeholders from across key areas and departments to build the strategy and approach to best preposition HFHI as a leader in the development sector with the range of prioritized funders.
The position will work closely with the Director, GFOI and collaborative, evidence-based program teams to drive and deliver on a GFOI US team target of approximately $10M annually, increasing to $15M+ annually in three years’ time and contribute to team success. In accordance with HFHI’s global standards, policies and protocols, develop and/or support systems necessary for successful GFOI fundraising.
All members of the Global FOI team serve as SME formally and informally as ambassadors/champions to strengthen internal capacity and appetite to develop and win complex funding from leading FOI donors ensuring alignment with the Global FOI Framework and strategy. The DO will play an integral role in helping shift habits, culture, and ways of working to ensure the GFOI team is successful. This will include but not be limited to: educating the HFH network on FOI industry trends and insights; provide final grants and proposals to Resource Development team to leverage as a shared resource; assist in FOI tools trainings and workshops to raise organizational skill and capacity around working with FOI donors to represent HFHI at conferences, workshops, and meetings in the field.
This position will be remotely based in the US.

The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience. HFHI offers a competitive, comprehensive benefits package that varies by country and typically includes vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, health insurance options, retirement plan contributions and life insurance.
For work locations in the US, the salary range for this position is between $79,000 - $119,000 per year. The target hiring range for this position is $84,000 - $94,000.

Key Responsibilities:
Donor Development (50%)
- In collaboration with Director, GFOI US, develop pipeline of qualified prospects; analyze each donor’s program interests, grant procedures and past charitable donations to develop comprehensive solicitation plans.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with assigned prospects through thoughtful cultivation and stewardship (face-to-face meetings, correspondence, phone contact); collaborate with HFHI program experts and relevant offices to educate and pre-position FOI donors regarding HFHI program work and strategic plan progress.
- Prepare briefing memos and other informational materials that assist senior HFHI leadership with donor engagement.
Grant Development (25%)
- In collaboration with Director, technical program staff and other HFHI stakeholders, identify appropriate funding opportunities, contribute to forecasting, and serve as lead coordinator in all aspects of pre-positioning proposal development and solicitation, including co-design and development of compelling grant proposals, concept papers, letters of inquiry, reports and acknowledgement letters for foundation and institutional donors.
- Ensure that all written materials best reflect HFHI’s programmatic work, its brand and strategic vision while aligning with funder’s interests.
Reporting (15%)
- Monitor grant reporting deadlines of a $6m+ active grant portfolio and work closely with HFHI stakeholders to ensure reporting requirements are met and are in full compliance with the funder’s reporting standards; work closely with HFHI finance and legal departments to ensure grant agreements, acknowledgements and payments are processed in a timely and accurate fashion.

Key Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- At least 5 years of programmatic and development experience in securing complex, six-and seven-figure multiyear grants preferably with the top funders in the housing/shelter, community development, and international affairs/human services sectors.
- Expertise in Internet research, specifically gathering and analyzing foundation and institutional funding programs, areas of concentration and grant guidelines/requirements, grant writing and budget development.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills with excellent interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills.
- Must communicate with cultural competency and be comfortable working with colleagues at all levels (senior management, middle management, support staff, etc.).
- Highly adept at interviewing program teams (including program design, monitoring and evaluation) in order to develop compelling grant proposals and Letters of Inquiry.
- Solutions-oriented and highly collaborative. Should show political acumen and ability to develop strong internal partnerships.
- Self-motivated and disciplined; must perform well under pressure and be able to complete multiple projects concurrently/balance competing priorities; ability to meet deadlines.
- Relentless focus on practical application and using the appropriate level of rigor.
