Job Description
Position Job Title: Dean, School of Management & Business
Location: Vancouver, BC (Hybrid)
Reports To: Vice-President, Academic
Primary Purpose
The founding Dean of the School of Management and Business, a member of UCW’s senior administration, will be working in collaboration with the Vice-President, Academic, and the founding dean of the School of Arts, Science, and Technology with the goal of completing the reorganization of the departmental structure within the Academic Portfolio.
The Dean will develop a compelling vision for the School, which is aligned with the broader mission and strategic objectives of the institution, and will lead the planning efforts to enhance the reputation, ranking, and impact of the business programs locally, nationally, and internationally.
Specific Responsibilities
- Design and implement an aggressive faculty recruitment strategy
- Participate in the inaugural biennial performance review of the continuing faculty
- Prepare for an external peer review of the MBA program
- Assist, as needed, with the operations of the UCW Centre for Advanced Studies
- Support curriculum development, including initiating innovative undergraduate and graduate programs, and developing or evolving programs and collaborations as market forces change
- Support and grow the promotion of global initiatives and partnerships
- Actively promote ongoing engagement opportunities for UCW alumni
- Help advance Reconciliation, Inclusion, Access, and Sustainability
- Promote reconciliation and decolonization and integrate Indigenous ways of knowing into curricula
- Foster UCW’s commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and access, including a commitment to fostering a respectful and supportive environment at all levels

Position Requirements
Competencies:
- Ability to lead and oversee a broad range of activities including academic programs, accreditation, faculty hiring, faculty relations, planning, policy review and management, and external engagement, in an effective and collegial manner
- Ability to foster a strong research culture, encouraging local and global collaborations, and supporting the development of excellent research that generates knowledge and promotes positive societal and economic outcomes
- Commitment to promoting teaching quality and encouraging the continuing enhancement of academic programs
- Experience, willingness, and commitment to engage actively with the business community, locally, nationally, and internationally, including through an external advisory board
- Ability to build and maintain connections with industry and the business community
Education and Experience:
- An earned doctorate in a relevant discipline, along with a record of teaching, research, and service sufficient for appointment as a professor at UCW
- A successful track record as a dean or department head, or in other leadership roles involving significant administrative experience, within a university or similarly complex organization
