Organization: A Non-profit Organization serving the blind and visually impaired, Lions Center for the Visually Impaired preserves vision, fosters independence and enhances the quality of life for adults in the East Bay who are blind or at risk for vision loss and serves as a trusted source of information and expertise on blindness in the community. Our services focus on early detection and intervention in order to prevent or slow vision loss from age-related eye disease. We also give older adults in the East Bay the tools and skills they need to maintain their health, independence and quality of life despite vision loss.

Job Summary: Responsible for critical functions within LCVI including the development and provision of services to blind and visually impaired population served. Attend weekly staff meeting; primarily work in the field (remotely) travelling to clients homes and supporting their needs. Travel throughout Contra Costa, Alameda, and Solano counties.

Qualifications: Minimum Bachelor’s degree. Prefer Master degree (may substitute Masters course-level work and professional experience). Must drive and be capable of making home visits throughout the service areas. 3-5years experience working with aging population. Experience in data and report management, outstanding written, verbal, and presentation skills, proficiency with MS Office 365 products. Passion and caring for supporting the needs of blind and visually impaired population with the goal of providing the highest quality of care and independence.

Accountabilities:

· Perform intake and assessment of new consumers in their place of residence and make referrals where necessary.

· Plan and provide training in independent living skills aimed at helping consumers remain in their own homes and/or maintain existing level of independence.

· Supply information on available resources during home visits.

· Provide coping skills for adjustment to vision loss through individual counseling and support groups.

· Keep clear and detailed records daily, completing reports and other administrative requirements by the end of each month.

· Participate in the Blind Center’s sponsored classes and facilitate support groups in assigned service areas.

· Be aware of and develop opportunities for extending services throughout the service area.

· Evaluate consumers’ needs and provide training for low vision aids.

· Coordinate low vision service with local agencies and community resources.

· When a CCTV is needed, arrange for delivery and train client.

· Give presentations to community organizations.

· Stay current in developments in resources for the blind.

· Network with community agencies, other agencies serving the blind and relevant professional organizations.

Compensation: The Lions Center for the Visually Impaired will offer a competitive salary of $18-22 per hour, based on experience. Part-time, 24 hours per week. No Benefits.
