A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Lisa M. Curtis, PhD in the Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine, UAB. The position is available for a highly motivated and committed individual interested in collaborative research addressing sex and gender differences in kidney injury. The position provides access to classical and cutting-edge research techniques. The major focus of the lab is to investigate sex-based protection in females in acute kidney injury. An additional area of interest for the laboratory is an examination of kidney injury in a transgender animal model.

Requirements: Recent Ph.D. degree (within 1-3 years of receipt of degree) in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Physiology, or related biomedical science. To be eligible to participate in a NIH-funded training grant, the individual must be a citizen, a noncitizen national, or permanent residence at the time of appointment.

Qualifications: The successful candidate should have:

  • Enthusiasm and be self-motivated.
  • The ability to work both independently and as a team player.
  • The ability to effectively manage research projects, including engaging in experimental strategic planning, prioritization, and goal setting.
  • Expertise in basic cell/molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience with in vivo models, including animal handling and transgenic animal colony maintenance.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication English skills.
  • Demonstrated scientific productivity and publication record.
  • Ability to mentor and train more junior individuals in the laboratory.

Duties/Responsibilities: The position entails working on multiple projects at one time. Responsibilities include: independent experimental design, planning, and execution; data analysis and interpretation; assisting with preparation of scientific figures, manuscripts, and presentations. 

Start date: Position available from August 01, 2024, until filled. 

Salary: Salary and benefits are commensurate with the NIH and UAB guidelines for Postdoctoral researchers.
