Job Description Summary

The Academic Success Peer Coaching Training Program at Santa Fe College aims to recruit, train, support, and retain qualified personnel to work in concert with faculty and student support staff to create a holistic academic experience. The program's ongoing training focuses on creating a culture that encourages continuous improvement for students, coaches, and other staff members.

 

Job Description

The following 6 goals focus on creating a student-centered environment that provides equal service to individuals at all levels of education and preparedness:

  • Serves as a peer mentor and academic role model for students
  • Supports students in areas of time management, habit formation, organization, stress management, prioritization, and study skills
  • Makes appropriate referrals to other campus resources
  • Assists students with goal setting and developing academic goals
  • Partners with students to develop and improve academic skills
  • Participates in student outreach initiatives and events
     

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Under general supervision, provide coaching to students.
  • Participate in on-going training and evaluation cycle, as assigned.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Learning Commons Activities Coordinator

Qualifications

Required:  Educational Aide employees must be a currently enrolled Santa Fe College student, in good academic and behavioral standing, and taking six (6) or more credit hours. Additionally, the peer coach must meet the following:  

  • Prior to an offer of an employment being made, the endorsement of a tutor trainer and/or supervisor.
  • SF Cumulative GPA of a C or higher
  • All applicants must have completed a minimum of one semester

Other:  A criminal background check will be conducted.

  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Organization & Time Management - able to plan, schedule and organize tasks related to the job to achieve goals within or ahead of established time frames.
  • Relationship Management - able to personally provide high level of interactive service to others, building relationships and addressing identified needs.
  • Results Orientation - proven ability to set and exceed established targets.  
  • Adaptability to Change - able to be flexible and supportive, react swiftly to and able to positively and proactively assimilate change in rapid growth environment.
  • Critical Thinking & Judgement- able to make well-reasoned, sensible and timely decisions based on careful, objective review and informed analysis of available information, considerations and other factors.
  • Systems & Software - proficient level knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications, as well as proficiency with the use of standard office equipment (computer, printer, copier, scanner, fax etc.) and a calculator.
