We are the only non-profit organization in the United States that combines search and rescue, youth leadership development, with aerospace and cyber education.

The Chief Information Officer
 (CIO) serves as a senior executive for Civil Air Patrol (CAP) providing vision and leadership in development and implementation of Information Technology (IT) governance, risk management, security and technical initiatives that align with CAP’s strategic leadership and direction. The CIO collaborates closely with CAP’s leadership measuring progress towards strategic objectives. The CIO also ensures that all initiatives under their purview comply with relevant regulations and protect stakeholders’ privacy. The CIO coordinates all operational aspects of IT Service Management (ITSM), directing the effective design, implementation, and continuous improvement of IT services to meet organizational needs and strategic initiatives, and support seamless operations. The CIO ensures IT operating plans, policies, procedures, and technical projects align with overall organizational goals. The CIO also works closely with other senior leaders and oversight bodies to align CAP's strategic goals and objectives with its mission, vision, and core values.
 

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years at the executive level, ideally at a large non-profit organization.
  • Senior level leadership experience in roles managing and directing a broad base of IT operations leadership competencies including, but not limited to cybersecurity, governance, infrastructure planning and talent development.
  • Experience managing geographically dispersed and remote teams.
  • Must possess strong technical knowledge and ability to make decisions for the organization based on a high degree of technical complexity.
  • Must be familiar with 2 CFR Part 200 as it applies to areas of responsibility.
  • A visionary mindset, with the ability to identify opportunities for innovation and translate them into actionable strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively to a broad scope of audiences.
  • High-level interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with people at all levels of the organization and across a range of different backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize quantitative and qualitative data from various sources and generate insights and recommendations.
