CO Medical Office Coordinator

Job Description

The Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a  Medical Office Coordinator who will provide administrative support to the combined divisions of Uveitis and Cornea.


Duties and Responsibilities

The MOC is responsible for a variety of patient-related tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Review and respond to In-Basket messages from patients. Route to doctors as needed.
  • Respond to patient calls forwarded from Johns Hopkins Access Service Agents who are unable to address caller’s questions
  • Coordinate meetings for division faculty, including division meetings, residency/fellowship meetings, and committee meetings. Coordination of the fellowship program including credentialing; coordination of residency rotations in neuro-ophthalmology; assistance with research projects.
  • Scan and load incoming records from outside physicians for internal physician review before patient appointment/s.
  • Provide back-up to Sr. Medical Office Coordinator processing division invoices, travel reimbursements, and Shopping Cart using SAP.
  • Perform all job functions of the Patient Service Coordinators as needed for backup.
  • Schedule patients for follow-up medical examinations, consultations, and imaging.
  • Confirm interpreter and note other special needs for patients in EPIC.
  • Respond to and address incoming faxed documents.
  • Scan all incoming patient medical records and referrals into EPIC.
  • Assist in obtaining required prior authorizations for consultations, diagnostic testing, and medications.
  • Coordinate peer-to-peer conferences for physicians.
  • Call JH Transport for non-ambulatory patients.
  • Assist the Clinic Manager as needed.
  • Perform sanitization of clinical waiting areas and waiting spaces in accordance with Johns Hopkins Hospital disinfection protocols to minimize patient and employee exposure to COVID-19.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Graduation Equivalent Diploma.
  • Two years of administrative experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of college or equivalent work experience. Additional education may be substituted for up to one year of experience.
  • Two years of progressively responsible medical office experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience within the Johns Hopkins patient-oriented community is strongly preferred.
  • Medical terminology a plus.
  • Proficient in EPIC.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and ability to multi-task.
  • Detailed oriented and organized.

Starting Salary Range: $16.20 - $28.80/Hourly ($53,352.00 Targeted; Commensurate with experience)
