PRIMARY FUNCTION: Adjunct instructors instruct students, participate in appropriate curricular and co-curricular assignments and functions, and perform the necessary administrative obligations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plans and teaches courses in assigned course.
2. Prepares syllabi, instruction materials, coordinates lectures, tests, and evaluates.
3. Maintains highest possible standards of classroom instruction.
4. Keeps abreast of new information and developments in field of instruction through regular professional development.
5. Actively participates in institutional meetings.
6. Assists with the development of curriculum.
7. Provides instruction on basic English skills such as listening, reading, writing, speaking, and pronunciation to classes and individual students.
8. Facilitates curriculum which includes not only English literacy and Civics, but also life skills, vocational/workplace English and parenting.
9. Monitors and coordinates online curriculum usage in Burlington English.
10. Administers pre- and post-tests (CASAS) according to the assessment guidelines.
11. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

1. Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field a regionally accredited institution is required.
2. Prior teaching experience is preferred.
3. Experience with disadvantaged individuals preferred. Demonstrated ability to use technology in teaching is required.
4. Familiarity with basic online academic technology, such as Canvas, is preferred.
5. Teacher certification is preferred.

Physical demands for this position include the ability to regularly sit, use hands and fingers, talk and hear. This position requires limited standing, walking, reaching, stooping / kneeling. Vision requirements for this position include close vision including the ability to view text from a computer monitor. This position requires some driving, the majority of which is within the College district.
Work environment for this position includes typical office environment with no extremes in temperature, noise, and limited physical risk.
