Job Description Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Part-Time Student Lab Assistant to join our team in supporting college chemistry teaching labs. As a lab assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of laboratory sessions by setting up equipment and chemicals, maintaining a safe environment, managing inventory, and assisting with various projects to enhance student learning and safety.

 

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Sets up laboratory equipment and materials prior to each lab session, ensuring everything is in proper working order.
  • Prepares chemical solutions according to established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Serves as a safety ambassador by encouraging safety protocols and procedures during lab sessions.
  • Maintains accurate records of inventory using a computerized tracking system, including ordering and stocking supplies as needed.
  • Collaborates with lab staff and faculty to develop and implement safety improvements and educational enhancements for the labs.
  • Performs routine inspection, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
  • Cleans and organize lab spaces before and after each session, adhering to safety standards.
  • Assists with special projects and research initiatives within the lab as assigned.
  • Provides service of excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Academic Lab Manager, Chemistry

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: The Educational Aide must be a currently enrolled Santa Fe College Student pursuing a STEM degree, in good academic standing, and taking six (6) or more credit hours.  

Additional Requirements:  A criminal background check will be conducted.

PreferredTaking/haven taken additional laboratory or chemistry coursework.

  • Organization & Time Management – able to plan, schedule, and organize tasks related to the job to achieve goals within or ahead of established time frames.
  • Problem Solving – proven skills in identifying issues, determining their cause, developing creative solutions, and following through with implementing resolutions.
  • Detail Oriented - Proven accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Systems & Software - proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.
