Summary of Position

Provide a wide range of planning and design process support and management, with oversight by the University Architect. Independently translate building user requirements into completed repair, renovation, or construction. Manage the planning and design process for identified projects, including day to day management of consultant contracts. Provide building code guidance and actively participate in updates to the Planning, Design, and Construction Guidelines

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related field and 5 years of related experience in planning, design and construction administration.
  2. Experience in coordinating the design process.
  3. Familiarity with building/life safety codes and handicapped accessibility requirements.
  4. Familiarity with CADD, preferably AUTOCAD.
  5. Freehand drafting ability.
  6. Good communications skills, both written and oral.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Professional architect registration, and experience as an owner’s representative

Duty/Responsibility

Space Management: 
  • Manage the Universities space database using AiM software.
  • Administer the rollout of customer facing space management tools and assist campus customs in their use.
  • Administer annual or semiannual audits to the database and advise the University architect on best practices for space tracking, reporting and data visualization.

Duty/Responsibility

Space Planning: 
  • Work with campus customers to hear their space needs.
  • Frame up potential solutions including relocations, reconfigurations and renovations to support new requirements.
  • Coordinate with Capital Planning team and Facilities Project Management on budget, schedule, design service procurement, and construction administration.

Duty/Responsibility

Consultant Management: 
  • Develop Request For Qualifications and Proposal for various construction delivery models.
  • Participate in the selection of design and construction teams.
  • Work with USNH Procurement to ensure compliance with policy for public-money, competitively-bid solicitations.
  • Act as liaison between campus customer and consultants to explain the design and construction process and set realistic expectations.

Duty/Responsibility

Project Oversight:
  • Work with the Capital Planning and Facilities Project Management to ensure design intent from project inception through implementation.
  • Support planning team with cost estimate and construction schedule guidance.
  • Support the project management team with architectural input, building and accessibility code guidance, submittal review and value engineering.
  • Administer university room numbering and signage standards.

Duty/Responsibility

Administration:
  • Serve on and in some cases, act as chair of diverse campus wide committees and working groups.
  • Schedule meetings, provide meeting minutes and develop agendas as required.
  • Manage and update the Universities planning, design, and construction standards including strategic initiative for energy efficiency, sustainability, and embodied carbon tracking.
  • Assist the University Architect with presentations to the campus community, University leadership, and the Board of Trustees.

Duty/Responsibility

Drafting: 
  • Use AutoCAD to maintain the Universities floor plan database by modifying consultant drawings into the universities standard format and updating minor renovation projects on existing floor plan drawings.
  • Assist the spatial data team on the transition from AutoCAD to BIM.
