Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Mastery of Subject Matter:
Mastery of Subject Matter:
- Demonstrate thorough, accurate, evidence-based, and current knowledge of the assigned field or discipline.
- Interpret and evaluate key theories and concepts within the assigned field or discipline.
- Relate the subject matter to relevant career fields and practical applications.
Teaching Performance:
- Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and course outlines according to program and division policies
- Develop and implement effective learning strategies to enhance student comprehension and engagement.
- Adjust instructional methods and strategies as needed to improve student retention and accommodate diverse learning needs
- Integrate contemporary instructional techniques and technologies into both face-to-face and virtual classroom settings.
- Regularly evaluate and update courses to ensure they remain relevant and aligned with the college’s mission and goals.
- Create and maintain a classroom environment—whether in-person or virtual—that fosters learning, engagement, and retention.
Mastery of Instructional Technology:
- Utilize current technologies to enhance teaching and student learning, including proficiency with basic computer operations and Microsoft Office.
- Ensure online courses comply with FTCC’s Online Standards Handbook.
- Develop and provide additional support materials to enrich course content.
Evaluation of Student Learning:
- Organize course content to clearly communicate learning outcomes and evaluation methods.
- Assess student performance fairly and consistently, providing timely feedback to support their learning.
- Be responsive to student needs and circumstances, demonstrating sensitivity in evaluations and support.
Support of College Policies and Procedures:
- Protect student confidentiality in accordance with college and FERPA guidelines.
- Annually submit a Personal and Professional Development Plan to the Department Chairperson or Program Coordinator, reflecting commitment to professional growth.
- Substitute for other instructors as needed and teach in various formats including multi-campus, online, or face-to-face settings.
- Contribute to program review, assessment, strategic planning, and efforts in curriculum improvement, recruitment, and retention.
- Conduct oneself with integrity in all professional matters.
Participation in College, Division, and Program Activities:
- Serve as a faculty advisor to students, providing guidance and support to keep them focused on their educational goals.
- Maintain regular office hours for student advisement and consultations across various timeframes (day, evening, weekend, online).
- Participate in faculty, committee, and college-wide meetings, including graduation ceremonies.
- Uphold professional standards in dress, behavior, office, and classroom management.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal skills in interactions with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators.
Contribution to the Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs:
- Build and maintain collegial relationships with colleagues, college representatives, the local community, and professional organizations.
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned to support the college’s mission and programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in History or Master’s Degree in a related field with 18 graduate hours in History.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Applicants not meeting this minimum requirement will not be considered for this position.
