Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

With minimal supervision, the Assistant Director for Finance and Administration provides strategic financial management for the School of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) and works to ensure overall fiscal health and sustainability in support of the school’s mission. The position is responsible for ensuring the efficient and timely delivery of financial and administrative services to the School and its faculty, staff, and students. In consultation with the Director, the Assistant Director prepares and administers the School’s budget, and oversees all financial and administrative procedures. This includes administration of all financial operations; development and management of state, grant, and foundation budgets; analyzing trends; approving expenditures; establishing standard reporting procedures and protocols; overseeing payroll and benefits; and working closely with other units such as Human Resources, Payroll, and the Dean’s Office.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree required with a concentration in Business Management, Accounting, Finance, or a related area of concentration.

Experience:

7 years of progressively responsible experience in budget, accounting, payroll, purchasing, and personnel work, 2 years of supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial planning principles and practices as well as the technology necessary to implement them.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking with the ability and willingness to explore and implement creative solutions.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and present relevant financial information for decision-making
  • Leadership and team-building experience in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal, intercultural communication (oral and written), project management, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to translate and present complicated financial analyses and information to specialized and non-specialized audiences.
  • Proficient in standard office applications (e.g., email, Google Suite, Microsoft Word & Excel, Adobe Acrobat).

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Master’s degree in business administration, finance, or other related field.
  • Extensive travel and conference planning desired.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience with sponsored research accounting and administration.
  • Experience with UMD systems such as Workday, KFS, BA4, BPM, PHR, eTerp, and Kuali Research (KR).
  • Knowledge of or fluency in American Sign Language.

Additional Information:

Salary range of $100k-$117k.

Candidates must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the USA. No visa sponsorship is offered for this position.

This is an in-person position. Telework may be available up to two (2) days per week, subject to approval.
