Organization Overview:

The Carolina Horse Park Foundation (CHP) is a 317 acre, nationally recognized, premier equine competition venue located in Hoke County, NC. Founded in 1998 as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation by equestrian enthusiasts. The Park is dedicated to the preservation of open space for equestrian and recreational purposes with multi-disciplined capabilities suitable for championship level equine competitions. In addition, it hosts educational events and fun outdoor activities open to non-equestrians. The Park also has a strong environmental preservation program.

 

Job Summary:

The Executive Director is responsible for the Carolina Horse Park.

The Executive Director is responsible for the Park’s current operations on a day-to-day basis, financial viability according to the mission statement, and long-term development according to the vison statement. The Executive Director is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and vision to the organization, its staff, and Board of Directors. Enthusiasm, the ability to create enthusiasm and excitement for the mission is very important. Fundraising is an integral part of the job. The Executive Director represents the Carolina Horse Park to the community.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, through the Chairman of the Board, the Executive Director has overall strategic and operational responsibility for the Carolina Horse Park staff, programs, and growth. This position has at least four direct reports: Director of Development, Programs Manager, Grounds Manager and Chief Administrative Officer.

 

Key Responsibilities:

- Operate the park safely while developing and maintaining a safety-first consciousness within the organization and with competitors.

- Run day to day operations working with the Grounds Manager, Programs Manager and Chief Administrative Officer to meet the mission statement and ensure successful horse competitions with satisfied competitors.

- To be a visible and available resource at events, including weekends, working with competitors, sponsors and show managers to ensure their needs are met.

- Manage the finances of the park in both revenue generation and growth and in managing expenses to fit within the revenue. Cash flow is critical in the Park’s financial management.

- Work with the Grounds Manger to ensure the Park is ready for a horse competition each weekend in both appearance and function.

- Establish clear, measurable business goals with accountability.

- Create, implement, monitor, and live within an annual Budget and manage cash flow with the Chief Administrative officer.

- Grow the park, fundraising is expected to be about one third of the job in three significant areas: operating, capital improvement and endowment

- Develop and implement with the Director of Development a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet the organization's revenue goals and vision statement.

- Articulate the mission and vision statement

- Build alignment across the organization with board of directors, staff, competitors, sponsors, donors, and community.

- Create enthusiasm and optimism with all .

- Personnel management providing accountability including hiring oversight, ongoing staff development, performance management and determining benefits and salary.

- Ensure compliance with all international, national, and local, horse competition and non-profit regulatory requirements.

- Work in partnership with the Board and Committees, Assist the Board in their operations, administration, planning, and information dissemination. Attend meetings as required, perform other job-related duties and projects as required by the Board

 

Qualifications:

- At least five years prior experience as a successful leader of a similar sized business or non-profit, with a track record of growing organizational success

- A university degree in a related field such as nonprofit management, business administration or a non-related university degree with relevant experience

- A proven experience in combining strategic direction with operational goals, objectives, and financial outcomes.

- Understanding of the financial and legal aspects of nonprofit operations

- Proven fund raising and business development skills with the ability to empower and enable team success.

- Must have great people skills with the ability to meet and relate to people with a passion for horses.

- Passion for equestrian sports and building an organization that empowers the equestrian community in the use of the Park.

- Excellent organizational and communication skills (written and oral), including professional and courteous communications with all constituents.

- The ability to be self-motivated and work under deadlines and be a team player, work collaboratively

 

Job Type: Full-time

 

Pay: $125,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year
