Notre Dame Research’s Freimann Life Science Center seeks a Cage Wash Technician. The Cage Wash Technician is responsible for:
- the cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilization, as needed, of all caging and other husbandry components to ensure research animals housed in the Freimann Life Science Center are housed in a manner compliant with appropriate oversight agencies.
- the verification of sanitation using standard industry methods (e.g., bioindicators, ATP-assessment and/or microbiological culturing), documentation, and preparing reports.
- assuring that all chemicals are ordered, stocked, and maintained in a compliant manner.
- preparing and presenting for approval the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for common cagewash-related activities.
The Cage Wash Technician may have responsibilities at both the Raclin-Carmichael Hall and Galvin facilities. Animal husbandry may also be a part of this position and may involve changing cages/tanks, mopping rooms, restocking supplies, and sanitation in all areas.
This position participates in rotating weekend and holiday coverage of animal care.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED
- No experience required, but must obtain Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification within 18 months of start date
Skills:
- Must be competent to prioritize and work with little supervision
- Required to lift 50 lbs., exposure to cleaning chemicals, working in wet environment, must be able to stand for extended periods of time
Must have valid driver’s license for transporting animals across campus.
