Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, has an immediate need for a full-time Enrollment Services VA Specialist, in Records and Registration. The work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm. This is a non-bargaining, non-exempt, grade 23 position.
For non-exempt positions, you are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. The Enrollment Services VA Specialist serves as a Veterans Affairs (VA) School Certifying Official (SCO) for Montgomery College and assists veterans and active military personnel with the GI Bill and other educational benefits.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Develop and maintain broad knowledge of GI Bill benefits for certifying veterans for educational benefits.
Inform students about the processes to determine their eligibility for GI Bill educational benefits processes to include, GI Bill education benefits certification, regulations of the GI Bill and student code of conduct, deadlines of transfer application, registration, payment processing, verification forms and eligible programs for VA benefits.
Maintain files for veterans for Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) and Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) required compliance audits. Lead and/or participate in compliance audits for each campus.
Perform degree evaluation audits each semester to ensure students' classes are required for their curriculum. Verify prior training and college credits for the student's program of study.
Serve as College liaison to DVA, Regional Offices, MHEC, and local (DVA) -Vocational Rehabilitation specialists.
Certify student enrollment for VA benefits.
Create education plans for Active Duty personnel for Federal Tuition Assistance (TA).
Submit a variety of reports to the DVA and different branches of the military such as the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Submit reports to (MHEC) regarding new curriculum and update programs.
Required Qualifications:
Associate’s degree.
Two years of experience working in admissions, registration or an enrollment office at a college or university to including either direct experience certifying Veterans Affairs benefits and/or experience working with veterans/active duty service members in another related capacity.
The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
Working knowledge of Veterans Affairs sponsored educational benefits and certification of these benefits in a higher education environment is preferred.
Working knowledge of GI Bill benefits, federal and state applicable laws and regulations; of academic, residential and tuition policy regulations and some knowledge of veteran and military personnel recruitment.
Proficiency in using a personal computer and software applications including Microsoft Office Suite.
Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
Experience working with a diverse population.
Three years of experience working with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Demonstrated proof reading skills and creativity for developing user-friendly print and web-based publications.
Knowledge of Veterans’ Educational Benefits and previous experience leading to the certification of these benefits for an institution for higher education.
Hiring Range: $25.18 to $ 32.73 per hour commensurate with education and experience. Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity. Please include a complete resume/application including all relevant or related experience.
