Overview:
This position is set as Part-time during the pre-employment process. Contingent on successful completion of all pre-employment requirements , the position is then converted to the discussed full -time or part-time status.
Responsibilities:
The Security Police Officer provides first response to emergencies; enforcing federal law and assimilated state law; conducting mobile patrols, inspections and searches; conducting traffic enforcement and traffic investigations; initiating an arrest and transporting persons; perform protective service work such as guarding NASA owned or leased buildings and property; protecting NASA equipment and material; controlling access to NASA installations by employees, visitors, and residents; and other duties as assigned. The SPO is armed with a side arm, shotgun, or other weapons as required.

- Will participate in Guard Mount, receive assigned post, and copy any extra instructions.
- Will carry out general and special orders for post assigned.
- Will communicate via radio, telephone and orally according to orders.
- Required to interact and escort as required with public and government personnel.
- Will provide access control, traffic control and conduct walking and motorized armed security functions.
- Will be responsible for cleanliness of uniform and equipment assigned.
- Will follow applicable standard operating procedures and NASA regulations pertaining to security of weapons, buildings, personnel, NASA property and equipment.
- Will conduct personnel, vehicular, building, & facility checks and package & parcel inspections.
- Must be able to work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays if needed.
- As a critical position will be required to report and remain available for emergency duty in expectation of a disaster or declared emergency.

Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Preferred 1 year military or law enforcement experience
- NBTS required prior to standing an armed post.
- ICS-100 required prior to appointment.
- ICS-200 required prior to appointment.

- IS-800
- Honorably discharged (If Applicable).
- Possession of a Diploma or certificate as a graduate of a Federal, State, or local law enforcement agency; or military services recognized basic law enforcement or physical security training academy preferred, but not required.
- Must be able to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Current First Aid/CPR or BLS certification.
- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) if serving in Patrol position.
- Must be able to obtain a DoD security clearance, but not required to start.
