Job Description

FINANCIAL OFFICER (FO), Schwarzman College of Computing (SCC) - Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems (LIDS), will be supervised by the Senior Financial Officer (SFO), working in a vibrant and active lab on a four-person financial team with primary responsibilities for providing complex and detailed pre-award and post-award research administration for a group of faculty and principal investigators (PIs). Will manage a research portfolio of approximately $4M; act as a resource for financial and compliance questions to administrative support staff and faculty they support; conduct pre-award duties including research proposal development and submission to Research Administration Services and post-award duties including monitoring financial compliance, preparing detailed overviews projecting a faculty member’s financial situation short- and long-term, arranging subcontracts, preparing financial reports, resolving complex problems, handling account close-outs, and monitoring support systems related to research activities; and perform additional responsibilities as needed.

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of relevant experience in accounting or finance with decision-making responsibility; experience with Federal contracts terms and conditions, administrative rules, cost principals and regulations under OMB guidelines; experience working in both pre- and post-award research administration, as well as sponsored programs; knowledge of budgeting theory and practices including reporting requirements and procedures related to federal, state and other related grants, cost accounting, government accounting and auditing; and knowledge of grants, contracts, and applications and familiarity with electronic research administration requirements from a variety of sponsoring agencies, federal, state, local, etc. PREFERRED: financial administration experience in a university, hospital, or nonprofit organization; experience working with federal sponsors including NSF, DoD, and NIH; experience working with industrial and foundation sponsor; and experience with Cognos. Salary range: $80,000 - $90,000, depending on experience.

Requires the flexibility and ability to work occasional evenings and weekends, up to 10% time, when necessary.
