- Prepare supplies
- Set up and manage medical laboratory equipment
- Manage inventory
- Provide direct patient care (phlebotomy)
- Process specimens
- Use multiple lab related software programs

Bachelor’s degree with a biological or chemical science major OR Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Certification.
Experience:
Five (5) years related experience in a science or a lab-related program.

- Excellent detail orientation
- Knowledge of laboratory safety
- Demonstrate a professional and working knowledge of blood and body fluid and safety precautions within the laboratory
- Ability to independently handle multiple tasks and set priorities
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Additional Information:
Essential Duty/Responsibility (1): | Must be able to collect and process appropriate samples needed for testing and analysis. Must be able to perform specified laboratory tests that have varying degrees of complexity. Must be able to train staff members in the concepts, principles, and practices of the different phases involved in laboratory testing. Must be able to evaluate test results, develop and modify procedures, and establish and monitor programs to ensure the accuracy of the tests.
Percentage (1): | 30%
Essential Duty/Responsibility (2): | Analyze, supervise and manage ongoing laboratory operations following established standard operating procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting of results; cover different locations when necessary and vary hours. Interfaces with other disciplines to ensure a smooth function in and efficient operation.
Percentage (2): | 30%
Essential Duty/Responsibility (3): | Monitor activities to improve efficiency; Maintain patient confidence by keeping laboratory information confidential. Ensure that all group members adhere to quality control policies and documents all quality control activities, instruments and procedural calibrations, reagent preparation and testing and instrument maintenance performed.
Percentage (3): | 20%
Essential Duty/Responsibility (4): | Contribute to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers by following established standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations. Troubleshooting lab equipment issues and working with lab related software.
Percentage (4): | 10%
Essential Duty/Responsibility (5): | Responsible for maintaining sufficient inventory, proper storage and operating conditions and efficient use of supplies, equipment & reagents necessary for testing. Provides technical guidance & advice in resolution of relevant problems or questions.
