Job Summary

Join the Varani Laboratory team as a Research Laboratory Specialist (Lead), a role ideal for candidates who thrive in a mechanistic and translational pathology research-focused environment. The position entails overseeing and managing the operations of a specialized laboratory, supporting one or more faculty members and their research endeavors. Key responsibilities include leading and operating all aspects of a dermal pathology project, which involves the collection of skin tissue samples from the hospital, execution of cell culture procedures, and conducting biochemical analyses using techniques such as Western blotting, PCR and ELISA. The ideal candidate is passionate about laboratory work, dedicated to advancing pathology research, and skilled in the specified techniques, with a keen eagerness to contribute to impactful translational research.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Additional Information

This is a term-limited appointment for six months.  At the end of the six months, the appointment will terminate and there will be no eligibility for Reduction in Force (RIF) benefits.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
