Job Description

The chief objective of this position is to provide instruction for courses in Operations Management, Project Management, Supply Chain Management, Introduction to Management, Business Communications, and other management courses as required.

Job Summary
Adjunct faculty positions supplement the faculty of a department wherever additional faculty are needed. Adjunct faculty hold, as defined by their letter of appointment, without eligibility for tenure; where authorized by the Dean, adjunct appointments may be renewed. Adjunct appointments do not guarantee course assignments.

Specific responsibilities of adjunct faculty are given in their letter of appointment. The specific starting and expiration dates for appointments are noted in their letter of appointment. Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduates in the area of the candidate’s specialization. Selected candidate may be required to teach in RU’s Core Curriculum as needed. Adjunct faculty shall be evaluated in every course, including summer school.

Physical Demands

Required Qualifications
All faculty must have at least a Master’s degree in the field/discipline in which they are teaching with 18 hours of course work related to the course(s) being taught. In some cases, subject to the approval by the Provost, a faculty member could be recommended for appointment based on substitution of significant experience for the degree.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience teaching or working in management required.
Demonstrated ability to engage undergraduate students.
Strong communication skills;
Experience assessing classes;
Classroom management skills.

Education
Adjunct faculty must hold an advanced degree or equivalent credentials based on experience consistent with accreditation criteria of the discipline and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools ( SACS ).

All faculty must have at least a Master’s degree in the field in which they are teaching with 18 graduate hours of course work related to the specified discipline. In some cases, subject to the approval by the Provost, recommendation for appointment may be based on the substitution of significant experience for the degree. A memo from the Dean placed in the instructor’s personnel file is required to justify an exception to the accreditation standards of SACS and must include certification of the knowledge and skills.

Box 6910, Radford University, Radford, VA 24142 Adjunct instructors must attend a scheduled adjunct orientation as offered upon appointment. Orientation date and time will be announced.
