This is an overnight position. The hours of this position are Monday through Thursday 8pm – 6am.
UNH Facilities is a 24/7/365 operation and has responsibilities related to campus safety and emergency response. Due to the nature of our business, employees may be asked to flex schedules and/or respond to requests outside of normal working hours in order to meet the demands of the university. This may include early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday work as needed.

- High school education or equivalent.
- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license and DOT medical card (if applicable based on assigned vehicle weight).
- A combination of education, certifications, and work experience equal to 8 years in all aspects of building mechanics, including but not limited to: diagnosing problems with mechanical drives, fans, motors, replacement of bearings and shafts, annual overhauls of pumps and motors. Preferred certifications include – Electrical Safety 70E; Bearings, Bearing and Shaft Seal Maintenance; Pump Installation, Repair and Maintenance; and Heating System Equipment, System Troubleshooting
- OSHA 10 certified
- NFPA 70E certified
- Knowledge of applicable codes/ordinances.
- Knowledge of methods, tools and hazards of the trade.
- Ability to inspect equipment, determine malfunction and make necessary repairs.
- Knowledge and ability to use computers, tablets, smart phones, and software systems to perform work duties.
- Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy work with exposure to inclement weather conditions for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary.
- Solid interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and written, to effectively communicate with customers, team members, contractors and supervisors.

Respond to service calls and requests related to the operation, repair, maintenance and installation and removal of various building mechanical equipment. Ensure work is of the highest quality while meeting all building codes and safety requirements. Troubleshoot minor and complex mechanical issues and provide expert knowledge on solutions. Utilize the UNH energy management software to diagnose heating/ventilating problems and use work management software to maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used and time expended. May participate in the on-call rotation and respond to emergency situations, including during off hours, as needed.
Duty/Responsibility
Perform preventive maintenance and repair/replacement work on building equipment and systems. Update and maintain records in the work management software and provide equipment condition assessments. Participate in project management meetings regarding equipment replacement, renovations, and new building plans. When needed, develop the scope of work for outside mechanical contractors and oversee the completion of that work

Participate, support and demonstrate Facilities Forward concepts which contribute to a positive work culture. Demonstrate leadership qualities during work activities. Mentor, develop and train Finish/Mechanical technicians and new employees. Oversee and provide feedback about contractors working on campus in the field of building equipment as needed.

Follow all building codes and recognized policies/procedures, techniques and safety precautions in the performance of your duties. Keep current on all required safety trainings, code updates and any additional certifications required. Seek out professional development opportunities that will benefit the University and your technical skills to stay current and knowledgeable of best practices and future trends and technologies.
