Job Description
Functioning within the Health System’s mission, values, objectives, policies and procedures, Lima Memorial Police Officers provide protective services for patients, visitors, associates, and physical property of Lima Memorial Health System (LMHS). Officers perform patrols of the hospital interior and exterior, as well as off-campus locations that are owned, operated and/or controlled by Lima Memorial Health System. The officers are responsible for safety related functions such as facilitating drills and other preventative measures to ensure a safe and secure healthcare environment.
Lima Memorial Health System police officers will respond to emergency situations, enforcing the established hospital policies and laws of the State of Ohio.All department personnel must maintain a tactful and courteous demeanor while exercising the duties of their position. They must learn the door access control system technology in order to ensure the safety of patients, visitors and associates. They will perform security patrols of entire campus to proactively identify risks to the hospital.Frequently works with medical professionals in advancement of patient safety.Prevents the loss of hospital, employee, and patient or visitor property by intercepting unauthorized individuals and investigating criminal incidents, while demonstrating and maintaining excellent officer safety tactics
Education:
- Must be at least 21 years of age when taking the civil servants exam.
- Ohio Peace Officers Training Program Certificate and current Firearms Qualification are required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a criminal justice or other similarly related field is preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
- Must be a commissioned law-enforcement officer in good standing.
- Weapons certification is mandatory.
- Successful completion of an Ohio accredited basic police academy.
Experience:
- Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of FULL-TIMEwork experience as a commissioned Police Officer or equivalent experience and education. Experience in a healthcare setting preferred. Candidates with military or law enforcement experience preferred. Must have a clear police record and be bondable. Must be in excellent physical condition.
Skills:
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- High degree of professionalism is required.
- Ability to read, write and comprehend at high school level.
- Valid Ohio Driver License and good driving record.
- Physically able to intercept and detain individuals of all sizes.
- Effectively communicate to others in all types of situations.
- Operate a computer with a strong familiarity with Microsoft Office software.
- Must be able to climb multiple flights of stairs in response to emergency situations.
- Must be able to wear department issued body armor.
- Must be able to work outdoors if necessary.
- Ability to handle volatile situations under stressful conditions
