Job Description

Study everything. Do anything.

Find your passion. Create knowledge. Serve the common good. Prepare for life.

This is what the College of Arts and Letters stands for. We play an integral role in Notre Dame’s mission to serve as the world’s preeminent Catholic research university. We are searching for someone to join our dynamic team who shares the same passion and mission. We are looking for an Editorial Content Specialist to join the College of Arts & Letters’ Office of Communications.

Who we need: The College of Arts & Letters’ Office of Communications at the University of Notre Dame is seeking a dynamic, intellectually curious, creative, and compelling writer and editor who is passionate about storytelling involving the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

Position description: News and feature articles about students, faculty, and alumni are essential to the College’s marketing and communications efforts, showcasing the intrinsic and long-term value of a liberal arts education and how our research makes an impact in the world — and the editorial content specialist is a key producer of such content.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the assistant director of communications, specific duties of this position include:

  • Writing content for other digital and print projects, including websites, marketing materials, and social media posts
  • Managing content series on undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni, including identifying and pitching story ideas and writing and publishing articles
  • Assisting in the creation and posting of written and visual content for the College’s social media accounts
  • Coordinating an annual recognition program for undergraduates completing a senior thesis project
  • Contributing collaboratively to the Office of Communications’ multimedia projects, including through copy editing, conducting interviews for video projects, updating and maintaining websites, and more as needed

This is a full time position based in South Bend, IN, that is currently on a hybrid schedule (1-2 remote days/week).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, liberal arts, or related field
  • 3 years of professional experience in writing, editing, publishing, marketing, public relations, digital media, or other communications fields
  • Ability to write clearly, creatively, and persuasively on a wide variety of subjects, especially in a journalistic style

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to interpret and organize complex information into copy that can easily be understood by the common reader
  • Strong proofreading and fact-checking skills, including knowledge of AP style
  • Ability to think abstractly and conceptually
  • Experience in or familiarity with higher education, especially the liberal arts
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with a collaborative team and conduct interviews with faculty, staff, and students
  • Strong planning and organization skills, including the ability to work with minimal supervision, juggle multiple projects, and meet regular deadlines
  • Familiarity with Google Suite, basic graphic design and video editing software, and content management systems
