Job Description
DescriptionAre you interested in taking ground-breaking concepts and turning them into innovative new capabilities that solve the most challenging, integrated strike and air combat problems of our nation?
If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!
In joining our team, we would welcome you to a dynamic group culture that upholds core values and is dedicated to continual improvement, innovation, risk-taking, and the development of high-quality products. We are seeking a senior systems engineer to help conceive, define, and evaluate system-of-system requirements and prototype concepts for operational applications. We need people who can apply a wide range of operational, engineering, and program management experience across a wide cross-section of capabilities critical to long range precision strike warfare. We are particularly interested in engineers familiar with space intelligence systems, uncrewed systems/platforms, electronic warfare, and precision strike weapons as well as engineering tools and practices to quickly evolve agile new concepts for rapid deployment to our customers.
As a Strike Warfare Systems Engineer, you will...
- Help design and develop future combat system architectures for our sponsors, addressing the associated requirements and needed interfaces.
- Lead engineering teams in the use of:
- Analysis tools and scripts that can conduct system-level trade studies and analysis of alternatives.
- System models and simulations to design and assess performance of new and emerging capabilities.
- Assess the necessary functional allocations and data flows within systems and between systems.
- Identify, define and recommend mitigation approaches to technical risks associated with system designs.
- Lead multi-disciplinary technical teams in complex system engineering tasks, including prototyping and experimentation.
- Create analytical products and effectively communicate technical findings and recommendations to APL leadership, government sponsors, senior military officers and government civilians, and the engineering community.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Have a Master's degree (or higher) in systems engineering, computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, math, or another related technical discipline.
- Have relevant professional systems engineering experience.
- Have previous government major acquisition program experience.
- Possess excellent technical writing and presentation skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and external stakeholders ranging from engineers, scientists, technicians, to senior military officers and government civilians as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Hold an active Top Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
- Have familiarity with modern software development best practices.
- Have experience transitioning early science and technology efforts to direct programs.
