Overview
TRC is seeking a talented, motivated, and experienced Principal Scientist to join our EHS, Engineering, Construction & Remediation Practice team in the San Diego Office. The position requires a strong business development, technical, and financial background and a solid reputation of building and maintaining key client relationships.
Primarily, this position will act as Principal Scientist/Manager on stormwater compliance and erosion control projects. The position will include interpretation of stormwater regulatory requirements; evaluation of sampling data; knowledge of construction and industrial stormwater BMPs; and preparation of construction and industrial SWPPPs. The position will require development of grading plans and SWPPP's, field inspections of construction sites, industrial facilities and MS4 storm drain infrastructure; storm water and non-storm water sampling; NPDES storm water permit compliance; municipal storm water ordinance compliance; and reporting. Additionally, TRC is seeking someone with experience of structural BMPs, regional MS4 BMPs, and facilities covered by the Industrial General Permit.
This position could also be responsible for business development which includes client interface communications, finding new business opportunities locally and regionally and review and preparation of proposals.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of construction and industrial stormwater SWPPPs.
- Preparation of other NPDES related documents.
- Compliance monitoring for construction and industrial stormwater permits.
- Prepare reports under the direction of a Senior Project Manager.
- May be required to conduct site investigations, water sampling/monitoring, use automated equipment, and field data reporting.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities, and deliver responsive, high-quality services.
- Review RFPs/RFQs and prepare proposals and statement of qualifications.
Qualifications
- Minimum 20 years of experience in environmental consulting, with an emphasis in stormwater and erosion control.
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher.
- California Professional License (PE or PG) is desirable.
- QISP and QSD certifications in California is desirable.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Demonstrated experience in preparing proposals and executing work.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must possess high safety awareness and be willing to adhere to all aspects of TRC's rigorous behavior-based health and safety programs.
- Experience with stormwater BMP performance modeling is desirable.
- Experience with Linear Underground/Overhead Requirements (LUP) is desirable.
- Experience with site assessment and remediation projects is desirable.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER training, including current refresher training is desirable.
- Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test and a company physical exam (indicating that there will be no restrictions for field activities or use of a half-face respirator).
- Some travel, early start times and occasional night or weekend work will be required.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.

Salary Range
USD $200,000.00 - USD $210,000.00 /Yr.
