Position Description:
Western Wyoming Community College (Western) invites applications for adjunct in Psychology. This position will consist of teaching no more than 9 credits per Fall/Spring semesters and no more than 6 credits per Summer semester on the campuses of Evanston, WY, and possibly as from a distance via the institution’s learning management system. Successful candidates will teach courses in the accredited undergraduate Psychology Department, as needed/assigned; teach in a variety of environments and modes: team-taught offerings, day offerings, evening offerings, online offerings, hybrid offerings, etc; assess students in light of the institution goals, program goals, and course objectives; maintain appropriate scheduled office hours; develop good working relationships with discipline-related professionals in the College’s Service area; be active in one’s field of expertise; have the ability to lift and/or move up 25 pounds on a regular basis.

It is expected that this individual will accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner, and strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with college personnel and the public. This individual must follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide quality instruction to students in assigned psychology courses.
  • Provide quality learning experiences for all students in accordance with their needs and abilities, while maintaining the basic integrity of the course’s standards and objectives.
  • State clear objectives and criteria in each course syllabus (utilizing the approved syllabus template); follow the Curriculum Committee’s guidelines regarding course syllabi; integrate appropriate Western Goals for Student Success into each course; evaluate students’ performances in light of these objectives and criteria; utilize common assessment exam questions and report results.
  • Teach courses in a variety of environments and modes as required, complying with ADA expectations. Instructors new to Western or online teaching and learning will be required to work with Western’s Instructional Designer.
  • Design and implement effective learning processes for students; provide feedback on student improvement in attaining the College’s Learning Goals.
  • Learn to communicate clearly and effectively using the college network system, including the e-mail and calendar system, MyWestern, Canvas, and Word processing; integrate learning with technology into the classroom as appropriate.
  • Refer students to the resources in the College Learning Center, Peer Tutor Center, NetTutor, Library, Mustang Success, and Wellness & Accessibility Center.
  • Submit syllabi, student evaluations, grades, and other required information in a timely manner.
  • Regularly check email and respond in a timely manner to School Chair, Department Facilitator, etc.
  • Participate in annual Adjunct In-Service, all departmental assessments, Title IX and other trainings.
Minimum Qualifications:

1. Master’s Degree in Psychology or Master’s Degree in a related field, with 18 credits in Psychology from an accredited institution. Coursework must be related to the type of course being taught.
2. Demonstrated proficiency in college-level teaching for at minimum 2 years (or the equivalency of years full-time); teaching experience as a teaching assistant or adjunct instructor may count toward the requirement.

4. Demonstrated ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a diversity of colleagues and students.

Equivalency Statement:
For those who do not exactly meet all the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities, may be acceptable.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Doctorate in Psychology or Doctorate in a related field, with 18 credits in Psychology from an accredited institution. Coursework must be related to the type of course being taught.
2. Ability to collaborate with and complement faculty in the department, division, and college.
