Job Description

Job Summary

The Research Assistant will conduct studies with animal models of cancer; perform laboratory studies needed to prepare for and analyze data from experiments; and manage the lab inventory of mice.

Responsibilities*

The position entails animal studies, including but not limited to surgeries, imaging studies, tumor measurements, and treatment with approved drugs and investigational compounds. The Research Assistant will help plan experiments; prepare reagents for animal studies; perform imaging studies from intravital microscopy to whole animal modalities; become proficient in animal procedures including survival surgeries, tail vein injections, intracardiac injections, oral gavage, anesthesia, and intubation. This person will analyze data from experiments and assist with preparation of manuscripts and grant applications. The Research Assistant will maintain accurate records of all experiments and procedures in addition to an inventory of mice available for studies.

Required Qualifications*

B.S. in Animal Science, experience working with animals, experience with animal surgical procedures, experience with administering medicines to animals on a regular schedule, experience with record keeping, and experience with intubating mice for imaging studies.

Desired Qualifications*

B.S. in a biomedical science field

Days; 40 hrs per week.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
