Exciting Opportunity for Operator B at the University of Notre Dame!
Join our dynamic team as an Operator B and play a crucial role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Power Plant and remotely controlled systems. As an Operator B, you’ll work closely with the ‘A’ Operator, contributing to both routine and emergency operations of our cutting-edge power plant equipment.
Your responsibilities will include:
Join our dynamic team as an Operator B and play a crucial role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Power Plant and remotely controlled systems. As an Operator B, you’ll work closely with the ‘A’ Operator, contributing to both routine and emergency operations of our cutting-edge power plant equipment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Mastering Equipment Operation: Take charge of operating our Power Plant boilers with confidence and minimal supervision.
- Analyzing and Adjusting: Conduct daily water chemistry analyses and fine-tune treatments to ensure optimal performance.
- Continuous Learning: Embark on an exciting journey to complete the Utilities Department Operators Training Program within 1.5 years of hire. There will also be opportunities for further education to stay ahead of regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of two years of trade, vocational, or correspondence school education, or prior experience in boiler or turbine operations.
- Familiarity with the theory and operation of refrigeration systems, power boilers, steam and gas turbines, pumps, electric generators, and associated auxiliary equipment is essential.
- Must be capable of maintaining composure and making sound decisions in emergency situations.
- Basic computer literacy is required to operate power plant equipment using a computer-based monitoring and control system.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in maritime propulsion or a similar steam-generating facility.
- Thorough understanding of power plant systems and the dynamic interactions between various components within these systems.
