Rider University invites applications for a Sergeant in the Department of Public Safety.  The Public Safety Sergeant will supervise all Public Safety operations during the tour of duty to ensure that all people and their property on campus are safe and secure. The Sergeant will supervise and assist the Public Safety Officers in the performance of their duties. Provide the necessary information regarding activities and occurrences on campus. Direct and instruct officers regarding response to calls for assistance and especially for emergency calls. Supervise officers to ensure that all assignments are complete and correct. Respond to all incidents disrupting the normal functioning of the University or its community members. Correct and review incident reports and daily activity paperwork to ensure complete and accurate accountability of assignments. Perform investigations, as needed. Prepare training manuals and instruct new Public Safety Officers. 

• High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two years experience in related operations. 
• At least one year demonstrated experience in a related leadership position.
• Satisfactory completion of an approved course at a police training academy or security officer training academy (i.e., NJ CUPSA). 
• Ability to prepare, read and correct reports. 
• Flexibility to work any shift, any day of the week. 
• Must be at least 21 years of age. 
• Must have a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record. 
• Must have demonstrated effective communication skills and the ability to perform well under pressure situations. 
• Must possess the physical condition necessary to fulfill duties. 
• The completion of a satisfactory background and DMV check is required.
