Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park, invites qualified candidates to apply for tenure-track faculty positions at the assistant professor level, with a target start date of August 2025 or later.
Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in one or several areas of strength of the Department, including advanced manufacturing, applied mechanics, biomedical devices & systems, computational science, design & optimization, dynamics & control, electronics reliability & sustainability, energy generation & storage, energy for the built environment, fluid mechanics & hydrodynamics, heat transfer & thermal systems, microsystems, nanoscale science & quantum systems, risk & reliability, robotics, smart materials & structures.

Additional Information:
Salary Range: $115,000 – $140,000.

- The Clark School received the 8th largest gift in history to a public higher education institution from the A. James & Alice B Clark Foundation of $220M. This includes funding to assist faculty and attract and fund first-year Ph.D. students.
- The Department of Mechanical Engineering faculty includes three winners of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and eleven recipients of the NSF CAREER award.
- The Department of Mechanical Engineering research expenditures for FY 24 was $25.9M.
- In the 2023/24 academic year, the 12,000 some alumni of the Department of Mechanical Engineering grew by 327 students who graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees and 98 students who graduated with MS or PhD degrees.
- In the 2023/24 academic year, faculty in the Department of Mechanical Engineering were recognized with the Southeastern Universities Research Association Early Career Scientist Award, the C.E. Taylor Award from the Society for Experimental Mechanics, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Henry Hess Early Career Publication Award, and named as Fellow to the Royal Academy of Engineering.
