Job Description
Alabama State University, Department of Public Safety, invites applications for Police Lieutenant. The selected candidate will plan organize, oversee and coordinate the daily activities of a designated operational entity of the ASUPD. This position will be responsible for the management of supervisory personnel and officers who provide personal, real property, and equipment security throughout campus, ensuring consistent and equitable enforcement of local, state and federal laws, and university regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage a specific division of the ASUPD, such as operations, crime prevention, or administration; relay orders ad messages for superior
- Oversee the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion,, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and make recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance
- Review police reports and log books to ascertain that information is recorded in conformance with regulations, determines the need for follow-up, and appropriate distribution
- Assist subordinates with performance of duties, review cases with subordinates as appropriate
- Review and approves reports on incident and crime investigations with subordinates, and provides guidance and direction
- Respond to the public and media representatives
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED, graduation from an accredited law enforcement academy, 3 years of supervisory experienced directly relate to the duties and responsibilities specified, certification/license in the state of Alabama as a Certified Law Enforcement Officer. Completed degree(s) form an accredited college/university may be substituted for experience as a year for year basis, have working knowledge of police reporting and recordkeeping policies, procedures and regulations, have strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community, have a valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.
