Overview

CAES by Honeywell is Seeking a MACHINIST II/III in San Diego, CA to set up machining equipment and edit Numerical Control (NC) programs for fabrication of various metal parts to exact tolerances and dimensions according to blueprints, diagrams and drawings; determine number of cuts required, and method of setup; use a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining; fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required; may monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures; checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances; performs work of moderate complexity, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations.


Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and DUTIES:

  • Set up machine and produce parts of moderate complexity level according to blueprints; uploading and downloading programs from Direct Numerical Control (DNC) to machines as applicable; edit programs as necessary to optimize program efficiency and part quality; inspect machined parts for conformity and quality using precision measuring instruments, video comparator and Coordinated Measuring Machines (CMM).
  • Verify paperwork, assuring traveler part number, matching drawing number, and revision level; inspect machined parts to predetermined specifications per drawing; modify and rework parts and fixtures; package material following prescribed packaging process.
  • Write low complexity programs using software such as Mastercam; program, set up and operate Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) machines by selecting proper programs, tooling, fixturing, and set the machine tool.
  • Design and fabricate parts, special tooling, and fixtures for use in subsequent machining operations; may perform trigonometry to calculate angles and distances for cutting machining parts.
  • Clean parts using degreaser, hydro-hone as required and alcohol; perform light deburring in conformance with microwave hardware deburring specifications of Process Procedures.
  • Maintain workstation, equipment, tools, and machinery.
  • Identify machine malfunctions and perform diagnostics and routine repair.
  • Participate in safety training and actively comply with safety policies and practices.
  • Actively support Lean initiatives by attending training where applicable, participating on Lean activities (5S, Kaizen, problem solving, error proofing), making suggestions for improvements and sustaining improvements implemented.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and activities, including any team support as appropriate.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1)+ years experience as a CNC machinist; or, two (2) years experience as a conventional machinist, detailed-oriented person, good manual and hand-eye coordination.
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by US export law. In order to be eligible for this position, you must be a "US Person" under US export laws (or eligible for approval under a U.S. Government export license).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Preferred:

  • Associates Degree.
  • Two (2) years experience as a CNC machinist; or, four (4) years experience as a conventional machinist, detailed-oriented person, good manual and hand-eye coordination.
  • Experience setting up and operating Proto-trak machining.
  • Communication skills: ability to ask questions and rephrase statements to clarify meaning; ability to read and comprehend simple instructions; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to read blueprints and Material Safety Data Sheets; ability to communicate with quality, integrity and respect in a way that inspires others and encourages innovation and possibilities.
  • Computer skills: working knowledge of MS Office; basic understanding of G code programming and other CNC programs.
  • Equipment skills: knowledge of proper and safe use of equipment, chemicals, tools, etc.; knowledge of procedures related to safety.
  • Math skills: Intermediate math skills to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamental of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry; ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical machine shop situations; ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all unit of measure; ability to measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; ability to understand and perform decimal, fraction and metric calculations and conversion.
  • Time Management and organizational skills: flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and assignments; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to cope with rapidly changing priorities; ability to prioritize workload on a daily basis.

Hourly Pay Range: $24.56 - $38.14 (San Diego, CA).

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base bay. Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
