Our Opening and Your Responsibilities
The Territory Sales Representative will generate opportunities from a variety of sources, such as leads, internal databases, segment market studies, internet, etc. Ancillary tasks include completing and timely follow-through on internally generated sales initiatives as well as accurately recording results and generating reports for management. This position is expected to meet or exceed sales targets and reports to the Sales District Manager.
The preferred location is in the Chicago metropolitan area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain their own sales territory (sales targets, pipelines, and customers).
- Develop and maintain consistent forecasting accuracy and report forecasting updates to District Manager.
- Accurate management and recording of data generated from these efforts online, in SAP CRM, Outlook or spreadsheets as appropriate.
- Contribute to development of marketing and sales strategies to support growth targets in categories.
- Assess local market trends around potential challenges and opportunities to grow business.
- Ensures all sales and customer issues are addressed and responded to in a timely and professional manner. Investigates and resolves customer problems and/or complaints ensuring customer satisfaction. Develop and maintain excellent relations with customers to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
- As part of developing territory strategies and plans: leverages internal resources, service specialists, commercial operations, marketing, and other tools at their disposal to support growth and strategic initiatives.
- Assists with sales communication to client/prospect base in assigned territories, e.g. templates for personalized mails, product guides, bulk mails, pitches, special quotes.
- Provides insight and direction while working with District Manager to support territory alignment optimization with respect to Territory Sales accounts through Sales Territory Optimization strategies.
- Travel 20% of the time to drive sales through customer meetings, product demonstrations, seminars, vendor shows, conventions, etc.
What You Need to Succeed
- Strong sales drive. Proven ability to sell and consistently exceed sales quotas.
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in a life sciences discipline or equivalent work experience.
- 2+ years of laboratory experience or customer-facing experience, preferably within life sciences.
- Technical competency in product knowledge, product application and product positioning. Strong understanding of the consultative sales approach.
- Attention to detail including excellent organizational, communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
- Decision-making: Ability to analyze data, evaluate options, and make decisions.
- Sound judgment and problem-solving competency in handling product issues, sales issues, and customer issues.
- Good time management skills in implementing and executing successful plans of action that balance sales activities with customer needs and account development.
- Demonstrated ability to foster excellent relationships, trust, and credibility at all levels of the organization, with the ability to create a partnership atmosphere with internal and external resources.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills with personal computer software in a business environment. Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook required. Experience with CRM systems and other sales-related software preferred.
- Excellent presentation skills, including the ability to communicate information clearly and concisely in person and over the phone at the appropriate level of the audience.
- Candidate is expected to be based in the Chicago metropolitan area. Regular travel within local territory is required and includes IL, IN, KY, and TN.
