Research Assistant

Job Description

The Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine is seeking a Research Assistant to organize, facilitate, and conduct a diverse portfolio of engagement-related activities, research projects, and other projects as needed in similar roles. The Research Assistant will work with collaborators and coordinate/integrate activities across research activities.


This position involves on-site, in-person tasks and responsibilities in Baltimore, Maryland. It may also involve in-person recruitment efforts in various community sites in the Baltimore metropolitan area.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work independently and with multidisciplinary teams, interact with participants, and demonstrate curiosity, self-motivation, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Maintain knowledge of the study protocol, ensuring adherence to research regulatory and ethical standards.
  • Set project goals and timelines in collaboration with investigators, ensuring tasks are completed on time and with high quality.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts via phone, email, or in person.
  • Organize and coordinate meetings with team members and study participants, preparing and updating meeting documentation.
  • Maintain a clear, organized, and secure database for data review and analysis.
  • Assist in the development of content, such as tables and figures, for reports and manuscripts.
  • Conduct literature reviews and assist with drafting manuscripts.
  • Attend project team meetings and coordinate progress reports.
  • Organize data tables, figures, and references, and manage a repository of research-related materials.
  • Use appropriate technologies, such as REDCap, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, or similar tools, for surveys and project communication.
  • Organize and maintain study documentation, including IRB submissions, financial reports, and grant reports.
  • Track and monitor project progress against milestones, managing workflows to ensure timely completion.
  • Handle administrative tasks related to budgets, including tracking and dispersing honoraria or other funds.
  • Assist in organizing community engagement activities to disseminate research findings.
  • Learn and utilize tools or software for project planning and communication (e.g., MS Teams, MS Office, SharePoint, Zoom, survey and design tools-RedCAP, Qualtrics, Canva, Miro, Mural).
  • Engage in additional project-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest in aging, epidemiology, qualitative data analysis.
  • Community outreach or stakeholder engagement experience in low resource urban settings.
  • Experience with surveys and/or literature review.
  • Experience working with older adults, with or without dementia, and caregivers from a clinical and/or clinical research perspective.

Starting Salary Range: $17.20 - $30.30 HRLY ($52,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience) 
Employee group: Full Time 
Schedule: M-F 8:30a - 5p 
Exempt Status: Non-Exempt
