This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Human Resources Generalist who will be all-in on our mission and who will provide comprehensive HR support across key functional areas, including employee benefits, retirement, leave management, employee relations, student workers, and HR policies and procedures. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this role will serve as a collaborative partner within the HR team and across all levels of the organization. The HR Generalist will ensure the effective implementation of HR policies, practices, and procedures while overseeing the administration of HR-related transactions to support the institution's goals.
Qualifications
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business or related field.
- Years of experience can substitute educational requirements.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Two (2) or more years of experience in Human Resources.
Preferred: Three (3) or more years of experience in Human Resources, specifically in the education or government sector.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Address and respond to inquiries regarding HR policies, procedures, and programs with professionalism and accuracy.
- Facilitate the communication and interpretation of organizational policies, including the employee handbook, directory, and organizational charts, and contribute to policy updates.
- Develop, coordinate, and maintain onboarding processes for Federal Work-Study Students, ensuring a seamless integration into the organization.
- Collaborate with the Business Office and Financial Aid Office to ensure timely communication and processing of Federal Work-Study Students.
- Process and verify I-9 employment eligibility for Federal Work-Study Students in compliance with federal regulations.
- Input direct deposit and tax information for Federal Work-Study Students, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Perform data entry for Federal Work-Study Students in the HRIS system, maintaining accurate and organized records.
- Create and manage job positions in the HRIS system, ensuring alignment with the organizational structure and accuracy of information.
- Assign and update job positions for new hires and employee transfers in the HRIS system, maintaining compliance with organizational policies.
- Process and maintain HR documentation for new hires, transfers, promotions, salary adjustments, GL changes, and terminations.
- Organize and file HR documentation in appropriate records for accurate tracking and reporting.
- Process employee terminations in the HRIS system and calculate vacation pay-out stipends for payroll processing.
- Address and resolve payroll and employee earnings statement questions efficiently.
- Review and process TRS (Teacher Retirement System) monthly reports accurately and on time.
- Enter various employee stipends into the HRIS system, ensuring compliance with payroll policies.
- Provide assistance to employees with inquiries related to benefits and support the coordination of Benefit Open Enrollment meetings.
- Update and maintain employee records to reflect accurate and current information.
- Perform other work-related duties as required.

- In-depth knowledge of human resources policies, procedures, and employee programs to provide accurate guidance and support.
- Skilled in managing complex inquiries, resolving issues efficiently, and delivering clear and professional communication.
- Ability to clearly communicate and interpret company policies to ensure employees understand and comply with organizational guidelines.
Salary: Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.
Pay grade 12 Amarillo College Pay Grades (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.
Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)
Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
