Job Description
DESCRIPTIONThis position will provide patient care coverage seven days a week, including various holidays, for various Express Care Clinics located in Eastlake, Encinitas, Rancho Bernardo, Pacific Highlands Ranch, Downtown or Virtual Express Care as well as future Express Care clinics in the division. The Physician Assistant (PA) will function as an extension of patient care for UCSD Primary Care, providing same-day acute care to patients with common health problems, such as colds and coughs, sore throats, ear infections, UTIs, lacerations, and sprains, strains and fractures. The PA will also assist with improving access to primary care patients with chronic or acute needs, the provider will also assist with duties such as, but not limited to school and sports clearance exams, post-hospital follow ups, and population health initiatives as needed.
The PA will follow standardized advanced practice procedure guidelines to provide follow through with the care plan. Assess and provide actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge.
The primary location of this position is Rancho Bernardo with the ability to float to other Express Care locations as needed.
Must be a graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
California Physician Assistant (PA) license.
Current PA Certification from NCCPA.
BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.
Current PALS certification, or required to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
Minimum two (2) years of full-time work experience as a licensed Physician Assistant in an Emergency Department, Urgent Care, or an Express Care type clinic.
Ability to perform triage and handle critical and/or urgent situations with accuracy, expediency, and tact.
Ability to manage own patient load.
Must be able to work within a team environment.
Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Three (3+) or more years of recent PA experience in Emergency Medicine and/or Urgent Care.
Telemedicine or video visit experience.
High-acuity triage and critical care experience.
Procedural experience (e.g., suturing, stapling, I&D, EKG, and Basic Radiology interpretation).
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Variable work schedule. Must be able to work every other weekend and some holidays.
- Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $198,485 - $198,485 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $95.06 - $95.06
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
