Position Description
XPRIZE is seeking an experienced EVP, Climate and Energy (C&E) to drive operational best practices and overall excellence in our Prizes and Challenges programs within the C&E domain. The EVP C&E will play a key leadership role by leading strategy execution of the C&E domain.
Responsibilities
This position will be accountable for all program teams within the C&E domain.
- Oversees and engages with all domain programs. Active initiatives include:
- the Climate & Energy Brain Trust, which is a global network of C&E experts who help inform new concepts for prizes through the annual Global Visioneering process, and ideate and collaborate on frontier topics in the space
- Development of a Climate & Energy Roadmap, which will map out breakthroughs, opportunities, and interventions needed to achieve an XPRIZE-defined future state of abundance for humanity in climate & energy. This is a new initiative that XPRIZE is developing and trialing this year
- Opportunities to secure funds to design new prizes around topics identified by the Global Visioneering process in 2022
- The $100M XPRIZE Carbon Removal, the largest prize in XPRIZE history
- Leads continued crafting of domain vision as well as prize ideation, networking, and fundraising.
- Ensures connectivity and collaboration throughout domain and the XPRIZE organization
- Accountable for successful delivery of prize designs, prizes, brain trust engagement, and new activities in the domain
- Budget authority on program spending within the domain.
- Maintains an active advisory role in each domain program, in support of the Program Directors and their teams. Each domain program (prize design, prize, brain trust) will have a Director or Manager-level staff person who leads the effort and their team day-to-day. The EVP will serve as the accountable executive, as well as an advisor, supporter, and contributor to each domain program.
- Manages C&E domain team.
Qualifications
- 10-12 years of relevant professional experience in or closely related to Climate and Energy, Renewables, Clean Tech etc.
- Subject matter expert in the domain, Ph.D. Scientist/Engineer expert, and/or experienced non-technical expert with established trust, credibility, reputation, and integrity in the C&E community outside of XPRIZE
- Strong Industry awareness and an established network in the C&E space
- Knowledgeable with the intersection of technology and social innovation with climate change and the energy transition
- Experience in leading senior-level meetings, webinars, workshops, etc.
- Strong collaborator with experience building and working with Ecosystems and partner organizations
- Demonstrated P&L responsibility experience
- Superior interpersonal skills, including strong managerial and supervisory experience of fast-paced, nimble, and highly-skilled teams
- Track record in overseeing and leading individuals and teams to smooth execution of multiple initiatives and projects
- Skilled in interacting with professionals at all levels of authority within major corporations, government agencies, and research institutions.
- Strong business writing and professional verbal communication skills.
- Ability to thrive and think creatively and calmly in highly fluid situations and under intense schedules and deadlines.
- Highly diplomatic, with proven crisis management experience.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $225k to $275k and may also qualify for an annual incentive. This role is eligible for our extensive benefits package and generous paid time off including vacation, sick, and holidays. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors including the qualifications of the individual applicant, years of relevant experience for the role, level of education attained, and certifications and/or other licenses held. XPRIZE is a remote-first environment.
