To begin approximately Fall 2024, pending position clearance, availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements. The position may be converted from 11 to 9 months or 9 to 11 months based on operational needs.  

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Under general supervision, work with stakeholders to promote, develop, and implement educational technologies including audio, video, and Web-based formats

  2. Provide pedagogical and technological support to faculty in the design (redesign), development, facilitation, and evaluation of technology-enhanced courses delivered face-to-face, hybrid, and online (synchronous and asynchronous)

  3. Assist faculty with the production of instructional and informational materials

  4. Assist faculty through consultations to learn and use academic technologies such as Sakai/Brightspace (the current and future UH LMS), multimedia, video technologies, collaboration tools, and educational technologies in face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning environments

  5. Work closely with instructors to provide instructional and technology support to adapt course materials appropriate to the mode of delivery

  6. Plan, develop, and deliver professional development based on an assessment of instructional needs, guiding the appropriate use of instructional technologies and pedagogical strategies

  7. Develop and maintain relationships with colleagues that help the College better meet their needs

  8. Assist the department in providing training to campus clients to ensure compliance with policies related to accreditation, digital accessibility, and other state and federal regulations

  9. Assist with the overall evaluation, planning, and management of campus educational technology resources

  10. Participate in strategic planning for the implementation of online learning, multimedia, and other instructional technologies at the course, program, and campus levels

  11. Participate in the development of new services and testing of new technologies

  12. Collaborate with a range of Online Education (OE) stakeholders across the College and University System to support OE-focused initiatives and address diverse OE-related needs

  13. Train, mentor, and supervise student assistants when applicable

  14. Related work activities include but are not limited to collecting data and preparing reports, developing documentation of effective uses of academic technology, participation in campus and system-wide committees and activities, community service, in-service training, and maintaining an approved program of professional self-development.

  15. Duties require working on a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and at off-campus sites.                 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Master's Degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Learning Design and Technology, Instructional Technology, Instructional Design and Technology, Instructional Design and Development, Educational Communication and Technology, Instructional Systems Technology, or Learning Experience and Design.

Note: Minimum qualifications must be met by the effective date of appointment. 

Desirable Qualifications: 

  1. Terminal degree (EdD or PhD) in Educational Technology or related fields.

  2. Five or more years of experience in higher education providing high-quality instructional design support and services.    

  3. Five or more years of experience in designing, developing, facilitating, and evaluating faculty and staff professional development in various modalities in higher education.

  4. Five years or more experience serving as a consultant to faculty on the use of academic technologies in teaching in face-to-face, hybrid, and online environments.   

  5. Five or more years of experience working in an educational context in Hawai‘i.

  6. Experience working with individuals of diverse socioeconomic and multicultural backgrounds. 

  7. Proficiency with Sakai and Brightspace Learning Management Systems.

  8. Ability to work with and provide support for both Mac and PC computers.

  9. Command of Google Workspace and digital creativity apps (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, web-based tools) used for editing and producing images, video, and audio.

  10. Proficiency in the use of basic programming related to online teaching and learning assets (e.g., HTML, CSS).

  11. Advanced skills in digital learning tools (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet, Padlet, Flip, Kahoot) and their application to teaching and learning in various modalities.

  12. Certification in effective online teaching practices (e.g., Quality Matters).        

  13. Experience supporting the development of Open Educational Resources (OER).    

  14. Experience supporting the implementation of digital accessibility standards and ADA guidelines.        

  15. Proficient knowledge of trends and best practices in higher education (i.e., learning theories, backward design, universal design for learning principles, instructional design models).

  16. Working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations associated with higher education and online learning.    

  17. Demonstrated ability to design, develop, facilitate, and evaluate professional development in various modalities for a variety of audiences.    

  18. Demonstrated ability to develop quantitative and qualitative instruments to effectively collect, analyze, and interpret data to assess program effectiveness.             

  19. Demonstrated ability to lead/initiate, execute, and complete projects, including setting specific objectives and measuring results.    

  20. Demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
