At the heart of a Catholic university, Notre Dame Law School is a Top 20 ranked law school that aims to educate lawyers and sustain a community of scholars who understand law as a vocation-to be a “different kind of lawyer.” The Associate Director of Student Financial Services will play a critical role in assisting the Admissions team in enrolling a talented and diverse incoming class through the implementation and execution of need-based financial aid strategies and programs. The Associate Director is also responsible for operationalizing the Dean’s strategy related to financial aid and financial literacy for our current students. This position serves as the primary contact to prospective students and provides guidance on the Law fellowship application and award process. The Associate Director will also be a resource for current students and provides personalized financial education and budget counseling

This position will work independently within the Law School focused on distribution of Law fellowship funds, and work to compliment the aid provided centrally by the University’s Financial Aid Office. As a new position, the successful candidate will be able to create supplemental Law fellowship need-based applications, review applications, assess student financial means, and provide recommendations to the Law Admissions Office on fellowship award amounts based on need assessment and available budgets. This position reports to the Sr. Executive Director of Finance & Operations but will work closely with the Director of Admissions.

Specific duties of the Associate Director of Student Financial Services (Law School) include:
Fellowship need-based applications; review, tracking and reporting
- create and maintain a supplemental need-based Law fellowship application for admitted students
- create and implement a fair and effective review process to distribute needs-based restricted fellowships using data available or solicited from students and in accordance with industry standards and best practices
- collaborate with relevant internal and external organizations to provide financial aid opportunities to students
– maintain and track fellowship awards for prospective and matriculated students
- prepare regular reports for senior leaders on awards and seek to make data-driven improvements to our fellowship distribution process

Student financial counseling
- serve as a resource to current and prospective students on financial aid options
- work with the Office of Financial Aid and the Office of Student Accounts as needed, to ensure student fellowships are accurately reflected in their student account
- provide information sessions and workshops on budgeting and fiscal responsibility
- provide personalized budgeting advise, working with Student Services to resolve current student financial need

Continuous improvement and research support
- seeks to continually improve our financial aid modeling and distribution
- stay abreast of latest trends in higher education financial aid through professional education and networking
– stay informed and ensure compliance with all state and federal financial aid regulations and University polices, and establish policies for the Law School relative to these regulations
- provide ad hoc research support to the Sr. Executive Director, and other projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree
  • 5-6 years experience
  • Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills who enjoys engaging with students
  • Keen attention to detail and highly organized
  • Able to work independently
  • Compassionate listener and advisor
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information
  • Comfortable working with data and technology
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism
  • Values consistent with the mission of the University

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working as a Financial Aid professional in a higher education environment
