Primary Purpose

The Human Resources Development (HRD) Instructor will teach job readiness skills and transition to the community at correctional facilities to include DART Center, Neuse Correction, and/or Wayne County Detention Center in Wayne County to meet the needs of today’s job market.

Position Duties

 

The HRD Instructor will be responsible for teaching job readiness skills and community transition programs at correctional facilities, including the DART Center, Neuse Correctional, and/or Wayne County Detention Center in Wayne County, to address the needs of today’s job market. Key responsibilities include delivering effective instruction in contracted courses, employing innovative teaching strategies and new technology suited to the courses and learners, and utilizing evaluation methods to measure students’ achievement of competencies. The instructor will review performance evaluations with students, maintain a safe and orderly environment in various instructional settings, and model professional behavior both inside and outside the classroom. Additional duties involve timely and accurate submission of reports, maintaining academic, attendance, and student records, participating in professional development activities, and contributing to the College’s Purpose and Goals. The instructor will report to the Director/Coordinator and perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Position Requirements

 

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Business Administration, Marketing, Human Resources, or a related field, and have at least one year of relevant work experience. Experience teaching adults is required. The role demands proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and using internet-based Management Information Systems for data entry. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to maintain records and files, including database management. Candidates should be capable of working with minimal supervision, demonstrating leadership, and collaborating effectively as part of a team. A flexible schedule, including availability for some nights and weekends, is required. A valid North Carolina Driver’s License and a driving record that meets the requirements for insurability under WCC’s auto insurance policy are required. Preferred qualifications include experience working with justice-involved populations, bilingual in English and Spanish, and a National Career Readiness Certification.
