Dean of the College of Law (COL) – Abu Dhabi University
SECTION I: JOB PURPOSE
The Purpose of this position is to provide innovative, strategic and operational leadership that leverages best practices and models to implement the most effective strategies in the Arabic-language programs of the College of Law at ADU. A key objective of this post is to develop further the academic integrity, effectiveness and reputation of ADU, with a particular focus on Law programs. This is a senior academic leadership role providing leadership and management of educational program delivery, quality assurance, quality improvement, enrolment management and client relations in the CoL.
SECTION II: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Management Coordinates the development, growth and sustainability, both academically and managerially, of academic programs within the College. Oversees the development of course curriculum and assessment tools to ensure compliance with ADU policies and accreditation at the national and international levels. Participates in the development of strategic plans, priorities and objectives at both the College and University levels; ensures the effective implementation of policies and procedures within all academic programs. Leads in the recruitment and selection of faculty and staff, and ensures the effective management and development of faculty and staff. Oversees all personnel matters involving academic and non-academic employees including recruitment, appointment, termination and dismissal, evaluation, promotion and merit; and the preparation and approval(s) of faculty workload plans and professional development plans. Ensures cost effective delivery of programs and courses. Supports faculty, course coordinators, department chairs and/or Associate Deans by providing clear leadership and guidance. Documents curriculum changes associated with all CAA and ADEK approved curricula within the college. Leads the college in securing accreditation from relevant accreditation bodies and ensures maintenance of such accreditations. Promotes knowledge and understanding of legal trends, developments, and research findings externally to the community and internally throughout ADU. Supervises and ensures compliance with policies and procedures of relevance to the College. Establishes strong links with external agencies, government and business in the fields related to the College. Regularly reviews program feasibility. Reviews and approves student examinations and assessment tools. Oversees committee meeting and activities and chairs most College meetings.
Marketing & Enrolment Management
- Develop, implement and evaluate a College Enrolment Plan.
- Plan, implement and oversee a College retention strategy for current students.
- Advertise the college activities on various portals to publicize the courses and programs offered at the college.
- Develop and coordinate recruitment activities with the University and organize and attend information sessions.
Financial and Strategic Planning
- Participates actively in supporting ADU's Strategic Plan at the College and University levels
- Ensures financial feasibility of the College and its constituent programs.
- Develops college action plans, implementation strategies and continuous improvement feedback mechanism.
- Manages the budget for the college
Reporting and Accreditation
- Writes reports to CAA and other relevant accreditations bodies.
SECTION III: KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Minimum educational qualifications required for the role:
- Research Doctorate from an Internationally accredited HE institution in a Law-related discipline in Arabic.
- 4 years of experience as Department Chair (or higher) or an Associate Dean in an internationally accredited school of law.
- Bilingual (English and Arabic) is required.
- People skills, Leadership skills, excellent verbal and written Communication, Organization, and Strategic Planning
