Work Location- Main Campus-3600 N. Garfield, Midland, TX
Job Summary- Pathways Advisors aid students with all admissions requirements and assist students in achieving their educational and career goals by providing academic and supportive advising.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Public relations/customer service experience
- Computer literate
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software
- Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and social skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Ability to interact effectively and work collaboratively with various departments
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines
- Ability to analyze complete situation accurately and adopt effective course of action
- Ability to handle a fast-paced work environment with interruptions and detail-oriented tasks
- Ability to research, learn, and accurately provide information to students on a variety of topics
- Excellent oral communication, customer service, and public relations skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- Understanding of TSI regulations
- One or more years of experience in an educational setting
Essential Functions
- Initiate and maintain systematic and frequent contact with prospective and new students.
- Manage (track and monitor) a caseload of prospective and new students through the application process, registration, and graduation.
- Proactively follow up with applicants regarding outstanding documents required for registration.
- Advises students in specified academic and technical pathways resulting in certificates, transfer, and associate and bachelor degrees
- Advises students with course registration, drops, withdrawals, and effective student success strategies
- Provides career advising for students wanting to change pathways
- Assists in reassigning students to another advisor if academic/career plans alter
- Applies the Coaching techniques used by Midland College Pathways Advising
- Participates in professional development and a quality management program focused on growth
- Implements academic advising strategies (syllabus, degree plan, coaching)
- Interacts effectively with students of diverse socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds
- Monitors and tracks student plans and interactions by using notes in Zogotech or other specified software
- Knows and understands TSI regulations for guidance and placement
- Supports all student service areas including transfer/career related services and testing
- Assists with recruiting program activities in the Midland College community
- Maintains an accurate calendar with open appointments
- Responds within 48 hours to all Early Alert messages
- Serves as liaison between students, staff, faculty and administrators
- Provides referral services for students
- Assesses and coordinates advising appointments and services and streamlines processes
- Must be able to work evening hours, at minimum, two to three times per month and more during periods of high registration traffic
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
- Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- Must be able to work extended hours during periods of registration and Midland College or community events
- Use of manual dexterity
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
- Work mostly performed indoors, some outdoor Midland College or community events may be required
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move/travel from office to other locations on or off campus
- Travel for training, meetings, and assist on other campuses’ events both in and out of town
- The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
Security Sensitivity- All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.
Pay Statement- Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
