What you'll do on a typical day
This full-time faculty position at Davidson-Davie Community College is a nine-month position, requiring a presence on campus with the faculty member’s primary efforts focused on teaching and learning, academic excellence, and student success. This position reports directly to the Division Chair, Public Services. The Faculty, Emergency Medical Science primary responsibilities include designing and implementing learning strategies for students in the Emergency Medical Science (EMS) Program both credit and non-credit; developing course syllabi and instructional materials; maintaining instructional records; student recruitment, advisement, and retention; developing and evaluating courses, programs, and services; participating in College activities and committees; and other duties which support the mission and initiatives of the College. A faculty member in this position also has various other responsibilities including, but not limited to the following:
Essential Job Functions:
- Promoting College mission, values, and vision
- Teaching assigned courses in online, classroom, and lab settings to meet program needs including, but not limited to, day, evening, weekend, and distance learning courses
- Evaluating student progress and providing appropriate feedback
- Developing course syllabi and providing appropriate written information to students concerning evaluation and grading criteria
- Exploring, assessing, and implementing appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning outcomes
- Participating in activities necessary to maintain program compliance with regulatory agencies
- Assisting in the evaluation of courses and programs
- Preparing and submitting instructional records, reports, and grades as established by institutional policy
- Attending appropriate College and other educational institution meetings
- Assisting in student recruitment and retention
- Maintaining appropriate office hours and accessibility for students, faculty, and staff
- Participating in professional development to enhance instructional and technical skills
- Ensuring that teaching strategies include active student engagement, timely and consistent feedback, and accurate up-to-date record keeping (attendance, grades StormTrac and in Moodle, Starfish, midterm, and final grade reporting, etc.)
- Participating in discussions relevant to choosing textbooks and other instructional materials
- Demonstrating initiative, flexibility, and an openness to change
- Embracing innovation, and being open to appropriate educational-related risk-taking
- Maintaining professionalism in the Davidson-Davie community through an attitude of respect and collegiality
- Adhering to all College policies and processes
- Performing other assigned tasks that support the mission and initiatives of the College
Your attributes
Position Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Emergency Services or related field
- Associate’s degree with substantial related work experience and a commitment to obtaining a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree requirement.
- Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program within two years of hire
- Current credential as EMT-P through NCOEMS
- Level I Paramedic Instructor certification with a commitment of obtaining Level II certification
- Minimum of two years of full-time employment or equivalent in EMS
- Prior college teaching experience, especially in an Associate degree Emergency Medical Science program
- Skilled in the use of computers and committed to using technology
- Experience with MS Office
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively and collegially with others
- Ability to provide leadership in anticipating and responding to change
- Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college

Position Qualifications
Preferred:
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Emergency Services or related field
- Current certification as National Registry Paramedic
- Experience in the instructional use of computers and non-traditional teaching methods
Work environment

Other requirements include ease of mobility in supervising students in classroom/clinic settings, providing client care, carrying supplies and other instructional materials, ability to move, climb, or crawl under equipment, use of keyboard, effective use of all forms of communication (oral, written, visual, auditory), and the ability to perform general teaching and office duties and travel to other campus locations.
