Overview

The Staff Counselor counsels grieving individuals or families, some identified as high-risk and/or high-profile clients, across the life span (Department supports perinatal, pediatrics, and adults). Maintains a regular caseload of Hospice and Community clients; providing counseling in loss and bereavement/grief or adjusting to serious illness. Facilitates support groups, including workshops, school groups, and staff support events as needed. With direction from supervisors, assists in any additional training, orienting and mentoring of pre-licensed counselors to ensure effectiveness in facilitating groups and managing counseling sessions. Contributes, materials for support groups or workshops. Works collaboratively with department management and staff, as well as staff from clinical services, in program evaluation, implementation and improvement. Assists with planning, attends, and participates in department special events as needed, including Camp Erin.

Work Schedule: Candidiate should be available between the hours of 8:00am-7:30pm, for a maximum of 8 hours per shift. candidiate must provide 6 shifts per month of availability.

Salary: $40.00-$50.00 hourly Subject to experience and qualifications.

Work Location: San Diego and South Riverside County, CA

Travel: Travel may be required for events.

Responsibilities
    Under supervision of Manager, conduct individual, family and/or group counseling for a diverse range of clients, including those identified as high-risk, high-profile or TEH staff and their families.
  1. Support Children's Bereavement Manager as needed with school support groups facilitation and training, and Camp Erin.
  2. Work closely with Department Leadership to ensure counseling services are adequate and effective.
  3. Support Clinical Counselor Program Supervisor as needed by participation and assistance with New Counselor Orientation, and with assistance in ongoing clinical/bereavement training.
  4. Work with Department Leadership to plan, monitor and assess effectiveness in utilization of agency resources and meeting client needs.
  5. Participate in departmental meetings and assist in any additional department and agency wide events or functions as needed, including All Staff meetings, IDT meetings, and other designated events.
  6. Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to assist in response to agency and departmental needs, including facilitation of evening support groups (typically, one evening per week), and in response to urgent bereavement needs in the community.
  7. Participate as directed by Department Leadership in standardized process of evaluating counseling services, including compliance activities and audits.
  8. Timely adherence to State and Federal regulations regarding COP documentation standards for Hospice compliance.

Adhering to the E-way standards is a requirement in performing my job duties.

Qualifications
  1. Minimum Master's degree in counseling, psychology, or social work.
  2. Minimum two (2) years post-graduate experience in counseling required. Three (3) to five (5) years counseling experience strongly preferred.
  3. License required as one of the following (LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, PhD, PsyD).
  4. Experience in grief and loss required; hospice experience preferred.
  5. Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate required.
  6. Spanish language skills strongly preferred.
  7. Current driver's license and proof of auto insurance.
