About SUNY Broome Community College:
SUNY Broome Community College is a comprehensive community college located in the scenic Southern Tier of New York. The College has over 7,700 students annually, and services over 6,100 students per semester in Liberal Arts, Business & Professional Studies, Health Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs. An additional 1,600 students are served through the College's workforce and non-credit programs.
Job Description:
The SUNY Broome Community College Computer Science Department is seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable, and dedicated Computer Science Instructor to join our faculty. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in computer science courses, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, and preparing students for careers in technology or further studies. This role requires a passion for teaching and a commitment to student success in a diverse community college setting. This is an in-person, full-time, tenure-track appointment available beginning January 2025.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction in a variety of computer science courses, such as programming, data structures, algorithms, computer networks, and database systems.
- Develop and update course syllabi, assignments, and assessments in alignment with department goals and industry standards.
- Use innovative teaching methods, including online, hybrid, and in-person instruction, to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Provide academic support and mentorship to students, including advising, tutoring, and career guidance.
- Maintain an inclusive classroom environment that supports students from diverse backgrounds and learning abilities.
- Participate in department meetings, curriculum development, and college-wide committees and initiatives.
- Stay current with developments in the field of computer science and integrate relevant industry trends into the curriculum.
- Engage in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and remain knowledgeable in your area of expertise.
Requirements:
A Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field from an accredited institution is required.
Three years teaching experience, or an appropriate combination of teaching, relevant work experience, and scholarly activity is required.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to teach a range of computer science courses including, but not limited to programming, networks and security, or computer applications.
- Experience in or commitment to teaching at the community college level.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage and motivate students.
- Familiarity with instructional technology and online teaching platforms (e.g., Brightspace, Blackboard, Canvas, or similar Learning Management Systems).
- Three years teaching experience, or an appropriate combination of teaching, relevant work experience, and scholarly activity is required.
Additional Information:
The annual salary for this position is $56,606.
Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
