Under the direction of the President, the Vice President for Institutional Excellence serves as an essential member of the executive leadership team and provides leadership to the areas of the Foundation, Institutional Effectiveness and Research, Organizational Development, Compliance and Audit, and Strategic Planning. As a senior-level strategist, the Vice President provides a comprehensive and objective approach to resource development, strategic planning, organizational strengthening, assessment, and continuous improvements that aid the College in fulfilling its mission.
Essential Duties Summary
- Strong and visionary leader that will direct institutional advancement with integrity, accountability, and service
o Prepare, administer, and monitor the operational and budget goals for all areas under purview
o Demonstrate knowledge of state and federal codes, statutes and regulations that govern North Carolina community college resource development, institutional effectiveness, and college-level policy and process
o Establish operational processes and make necessary modifications based on analysis of operations, demographics, and other pertinent data
o Direct the development and administration of a cost-effective budget for assigned functions; direct the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; and make midyear corrections
o Maintain confidentiality of sensitive records and information
o Ensure quality in recruiting, selecting, training, and evaluating staff.
o Develop and maintain strategic partnerships and collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, business and industry leaders, government officials, elected officials, and community representatives.
- Provide leadership for all college resource development
o Serve as liaison to the board of directors of the South Piedmont Community College Foundation, Inc.
§ Ensure the maintenance of accurate and appropriate records.
§ Work in concert with the Foundation board chair to schedule and plan meetings.
§ Work in concert with the Foundation treasurer to maintain appropriate financial records.
§ Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures related to the effective operation of the South Piedmont Community College Foundation, Inc.
§ Manage Foundation fundraising campaigns and related events.
§ Solicit and acknowledge gifts.
§ Train volunteers.
§ Plan donor recognition activities.
§ Produce fund-raising and promotional materials.
o Acquire external resources for the college.
§ Provide leadership, management, and supervision for the annual campaign and other college fund drives.
§ Assist other college stakeholders to identify needs and assist with the development of grant proposals that fit the college mission.
o Cultivate internal and external relationships to establish partnerships and garner resources to better serve students and the community
o As the president’s designee, facilitate the college’s Donations of Items while adhering to college, system, and statewide policy.
- Provide leadership for all institutional effectiveness processes and policies.
o Oversee college-wide and division-specific goal development, progress, achievement, and reporting
o Oversee SACSCOC accreditation compliance and reporting requirements
o Oversee institutional research activities and ensure integration of data into marketing and development strategies
o Establish core capabilities in the areas of strategy, innovation, decision management, business planning, performance, and continuous improvement utilizing data and metrics
o Foster a data-informed culture of ongoing assessment to draw insights that support student success and organizational excellence
o Recommend strategies to implement departmental or programmatic changes based upon assessment and research findings
o Analyze data for trends or patterns to identify opportunities for organizational improvement
o Communicate and visualize data ethically and with authenticity
o Diagnose organization capabilities and translate these into practical applications, including organizational effectiveness
o Research and evaluate opportunities to bring best practices from other organizations and promote the execution of new initiatives that promote the success of the college strategies
- Provide leadership for strategic planning efforts
o Develop the strategic planning framework for the organization in alignment with SPCC’s vision, mission, and values
o Work with stakeholders to identify, define, and support significant process improvement initiatives as it relates to the College’s strategic plan
o Provide college-wide leadership and support in the alignment of program and unit-level institutional effectiveness efforts with institutional strategic plans and priorities
o Establish trusting relationships across departments and divisions using data to influence strategic outcomes
- Provide leadership for organizational development
- Present a favorable image of the college at all times and positively promote the college’s goals, objectives, and strategies internally and externally
- Maintain professionalism in appearance and communications
- Willingness to be involved in community activities and groups
- At the President’s direction, serve as liaison to government agencies, commissions, associations, and stakeholders in public higher education.
- Make presentations at meetings, workshops, and events as assigned.
- Advise the President on matters of resource development, institutional effectiveness, and other college-wide issues
- Perform other duties as assigned by the President
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the equivalent of education and experience that demonstrates the position requirements
- Minimum of five years of senior administrative experience that includes organizational level decision-making and interaction with an executive team
- Ability to communicate effectively (oral and in writing) to diverse external and internal stakeholders
- Proven ability to interact positively, effectively, cooperatively, and tactfully with diverse groups, which may include faculty, staff, administrators, the media, business and industry leaders, government officials, and community representatives
- Demonstrated ability to develop external relationships that benefit the institution
- Experience in identifying needs and problems, creating innovative solutions, and managing multiple projects
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, media development, and presentation software applications
- Demonstrated experience in managing departmental or divisional human, physical, and financial resources
Preferred Qualifications
- Leadership experience with a community college foundation or a community college institutional effectiveness team
- Master’s degree from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the equivalent of education and experience that demonstrates the position requirements
