Job Description
The Department of Business and Management invites applications for tenure track or a professional position in finance at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, effective August 2025. Areas of specialization are open; however, preference will be given to candidates with expertise in Risk Management, Corporate Finance, and Markets and Institutions. A well-qualified finance faculty will be a critical thinker who combines insight, creativity, and technology with a practical approach to finance education.
The Department of Business and Management at Vanguard University is part of the Patty Arvielo School of Business and Management and currently offers a BA in Accounting, Business Administration, and Marketing. The department is home to COMPASS, a professional development co-curricular program, and a thriving student Accounting Society. The Patty Arvielo School of Business and Management at Vanguard University, launched in fall 2024, is the first U.S. business school named after a Latina. Founding dean Thomas Arnold, with extensive experience with extensive experience from Chapman University, the University of Florida, 18 years on Wall Street and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, aims to develop a cutting-edge curriculum, strengthen the institution’s ties with the local business community, and expand the school’s offerings in high-demand areas such as real estate, accounting, finance and creative technologies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate coursework in finance and other business courses.
- Transfer knowledge including theory, practical skills, methods and techniques in his/her related field.
- Challenge thinking, foster debate and develop the ability of students to engage in critical discourse and thinking.
- Participate in general faculty roles in areas including advising and committee service.
- Participate in the building of an innovative Christian university.
- Take part in department and university decision-making and governance.
- Exercise academic leadership in the design and development of curricula.
- Collaborate with department faculty in curriculum implementation, student support, and continuous program improvement.
- Assist with development of new initiatives and delivery systems.
- Assist with facilitation of continuing accreditation through participation in professional development opportunities and in the preparation of program review documents and assessment processes.
- Assist in building relationships with Orange County businesses and employers; assist with continuous strengthening of program links to and service to the community.
- Participate in the mentoring of students through advising, responding to questions appropriate to student/faculty interaction, and meet with students as needed or requested.
- Identify risks to the organization within the department and discuss risk reduction options with immediate supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidates with a PhD/DBA in Finance are preferred. Qualified individuals with an MBA in economics/finance plus a combination of extensive teaching and finance industry experience will be considered.
- Candidates must have evidence of a strong commitment to teaching in a liberal arts environment. Interacting with students, working collaboratively with faculty from other disciplines, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values, and culture must be a top priority of the candidate.
- Demonstrated teaching ability at the undergraduate level. Experience with hyflex and/or online delivery methods preferred.
- Proficiency or strong familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite of applications and the Canvas learning management system or equivalent LMS.
- A vibrant Christian faith, and commitment to an integration of faith and learning.
SALARY
Full-time position. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Highly qualified candidates may be considered for an appointment to an endowed professorship with additional compensation.
Assistant Professor: $58,242 to $78,336 Associate Professor: $67,932 to $91,494 Professor: $78,846 to $109,548
Placement at appropriate rank (e.g., Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) and initial salary is dependent upon education, experience, and based on Vanguard’s faculty compensation schedule. The upper range is reserved for candidates that demonstrate the highest level of proficiency within a particular rank. Vanguard University also offers a very competitive and generous benefits package.
Vanguard offers both tenure track and term faculty contracts; the type of contract offered will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications at the time of hire.
