Data and Technology Analyst

Job Description

The Office of the University Registrar (OUR) seeks a Data and Technology Analyst who will report to the Associate Registrar, Student Systems and Technology. The Office of the University Registrar is comprised of technical and functional experts on all functions of the Registrar’s office, including protection and integrity of the student records, reporting compliance, institutional needs, data stewardship, technical enhancements, and business solutions.


The Data and Technology Analyst support the university vision by supporting the configuration, operation, implementation, and needs analysis of technology solutions pertaining to student records management. Further, this position will ensure quality management, user acceptance testing, and ensuring that requirements for software solutions are met. From a systems perspective, I contribute to enhancements in various processes, including reporting, querying, grading, and degree auditing. They will support tasks and projects related to data-driven decision-making, focusing on data integration, integrity, mining, and analysis.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as an expert and central resource to divisional registrar offices in relation to data fields and configuration.
  • Facilitate project elements such as requirements gathering, stakeholder communication, generating test cases, user acceptance testing, and post-implementation evaluation.
  • Collaborate on technical design, development, and delivery of various student information system development components, including reports, interfaces, and custom solutions.
  • Create system documentation and update current documentation as processes and procedures change.
  • Facilitate the coordination and execution of student records maintenance throughout various systems.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies in student information systems and other propagated systems. Conduct needs analyses and recommend future systems improvements.
  • Provide functional support during project/release go-lives.
  • Monitor, observe, and ensure processes and practices that actively safeguard student data (per the University’s FERPA policy).


Other

  • Provide detailed updates and analysis to project leads and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate on other projects (e.g. divisional events as needed, and other general office functions, as assigned).
  • Handle administrative tasks for project teams as needed to keep projects running smoothly and on time.
  • Additional responsibility as assigned.

  • Experience working with Student Information Systems.
  • Ability to analytically design program logic to solve technical problems.
  • Ability to develop test cases and facilitate user acceptance testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working in higher education information systems and developing queries, updating data, troubleshooting, and delivering user-friendly reports.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve issues, including student data issues.
  • Experience as a liaison between functional and IT staff.
  • Ability to collaborate and problem-solve regarding business process improvements and innovative solutions, and to oversee implementation of new solutions or systems.
  • Functional experience with OnBase or other document imaging software is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), and all laws, rules, and regulations related to JHU policies is desired.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • Four (4) or more years of business requirement gathering experience and/or hands-on experience with systems implementation, integrations, and user acceptance testing (automated and manual).
  • Experience leading and/or coordinating projects
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and process improvement.
  • Functional experience with SQL and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $62,900 - $110,100 Annually ($70,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
