About SUNY Broome Community College:

SUNY Broome Community College is a comprehensive community college located in the scenic Southern Tier of New York. The College has over 7,700 students annually, and services over 6,100 students per semester in Liberal Arts, Business & Professional Studies, Health Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs. An additional 1,600 students are served through the College's workforce and non-credit programs.

 


Job Description:

SUNY Broome is seeking candidates for a full-time Executive Assistant to the President. This position reports directly to the President of the College and serves as the confidential assistant and primary support to the President and the College as a whole.  This cabinet-level position manages communications, internal and external events, and projects, and provides organizational support and administration to the President.  The position handles highly confidential, moderate to complex administrative assignments and high ethical standards are required.  The Executive Assistant to the President also serves as the Secretary to the Board of Trustees.  The position may manage staff for additional professional support to the Office of the President. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Handles and manages sensitive, confidential communications and documents within the Office of the President and between senior level administrators. Develops written communication, presentation materials for the President's Review.
  • Relieves the President of detail which do not require his/her personal attention by use of discretion, fact and a comprehensive knowledge of College policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates special events, receptions and social obligations for the President and Board of Trustees.
  • Ensure that high-priority projects are effectively and efficiently managed and in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Coordinates retreat, conference, and travel arrangements for both in-house and external meetings for the President, Board of Trustees, and visiting dignitaries.
  • As the College's Records Access Officer, is responsible for responding to requests for records in compliance with Public Officers Law, Sections 84-90 and 95-106 (Freedom of Information Law and Open Meeting Law).
  • Makes recommendations to the President on the budget for the Office of the President, Board of Trustees, and Shared Governance and, after it is adopted, provides administrative support in managing and monitoring the budget.
  • Maintains the President's web page and College's Policy portal, posting of policies and shepherding the policy process for all the college's policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a voting member of the President's Cabinet or Executive Council and maintains record of meetings.
  • Coordinates the calendar of the President for managing community engagement and or development opportunities with high-level leaders in education, business, industry, government, health and human services.
  • Serves as liaison between the Office of the President, College administrators, faculty, staff, students, other institutions, and general public by serving as initial contact via phone, email, or in person. Uses judgment to determine if complex issues require Presidential intervention.
  • Supports the President's work with SUNY and other governing board and acts as an administrative liaison to governance committees as requested.
  • Serves as liaison to the Board of Trustees:  Prepares and distributes meeting materials; assigned to document the meeting minutes and distribute to the board; and maintain official Board records and materials. Attends meetings and records action items.
  • Designee for the President at selected community sessions and college committees.  May lead and/or actively participate in College committees.  Represent the President's Office on Search committees.

 


Requirements:

A bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree preferred.

A minimum of three (3) years of experience in an institution of higher education is required, preferably with a community college. Similar experience in progressively more senior-level administrative roles with responsibilities for supporting a President or Chief Executive (i.e., in a corporate or institutional setting) will also be considered.

 


Additional Information:

The annual salary for this position, depending on experience, starts at $88,107.

Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
